It seems a new face will be entering the mix when Chicago Fire season 14 resumes in the new year!
On December 3, Chicago Fire star Dermot Mulroney took to his Instagram Stories to share a behind-the-scenes photo from the set of season 14. In the photo, Mulroney appears alongside several of his Chicago Fire co-stars including Miranda Rae Mayo, Joe Minoso, Hanako Greensmith, and David Eigenberg, but it’s the inclusion of a new face to the show that caught the attention of One Chicago Center.
Also appearing in the photo is actor Max Martini (The Unit, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi), whose character can clearly be seen wearing a Chicago Fire Department-issued jacket for a Deputy District Chief. No further context is provided, however, it seems that Martini will be dropping into the Windy City when season 14 resumes in the new year to play a newly introduced Deputy District Chief within the CFD.

Details surrounding the introduction of Martini’s character, including the character’s name and the storyline he’ll be involved in, remain unclear at this time as NBC has yet to confirm whether this will be a guest spot or is designed to be a recurring role for the season. It’s also unclear when we’ll meet this new Deputy District Chief; however, it seems likely he’ll appear sometime shortly after season 14 resumes on January 7, 2026.
With all of the changes going on within the CFD this season, it’s possible that Martini’s Deputy District Chief character will pop up to be an ally to Mulroney’s character Battalion Chief Dom Pascal. Perhaps Pascal will turn to Martini’s character to help fight against further budget cuts such as the ones set to impact Engine 51. Pascal could certainly use some additional allies in the CFD, and the introduction of this new Deputy District Chief could fill that role.
Of course, it’s also possible that the Deputy District Chief might prove to be more of a foe than a friend. It wouldn’t be the first time an authority figure has entered the mix and proven to be a thorn in 51’s side. Pascal has been getting along well with the mayor's chief of staff, Annette Davis, so perhaps this new Deputy District Chief will show up just in time to ruffle some feathers and create a headache for Pascal and 51.
Fans will have to stay tuned to find out whether this new Deputy District Chief will be friend or foe and keep an eye out for his arrival when Chicago Fire season 14 resumes on January 7!
