Chicago Fire might be about to serve up a Stellaride-centric episode, but in doing so there is a good chance that the majority of the show’s ensemble could be sidelined.
Chicago Fire season 15, episode 4, “A Perfect Arson,” will see Severide recruited by the FBI to assist in leading an arson investigation after an arson was staged to cover up the kidnapping of a judge’s daughter. Why Severide and not OFI? That’s a question Severide asks directly in the promo for the episode, to which an FBI agent informs him that he’s been requested personally to lead the investigation, much to his surprise given the stakes, which involve not only the kidnapping and arson but also a murder as well.
It’s clear that the episode is going to put Severide front and center, with the story designed to center on Severide and showcase Taylor Kinney. However, he won’t be alone in working this case.
“How can I help?” Kidd asks early in the promo, offering a hand to Severide, which he will happily accept, as evidenced by the promotional photos for the episode, which spotlight the duo out in the field working the case together. Stellaride is featured prominently throughout the promotional materials for the episode, making it clear that this will be just as much a Stellaride episode as it’ll be a Severide episode, which we are honestly so here for.
Sure, we get Stellaride moments in most episodes, but it’s not often that we get an entire episode that is centered around Chicago Fire’s core couple! Taylor Kinney and Miranda Rae Mayo are magic on screen, and it’s going to be so fun getting to see the pair lead the episode, especially one that is going to get to see them working together on an arson investigation! As we saw in episode 3, when the pair worked together to get answers about what happened on the call that landed Tony in the hospital, Kidd and Severide are incredible on their own, but they're an absolute force when they team up.
Chicago Fire fans are in for a real treat with the episode; however, there is an elephant in the room that needs to be addressed. In serving up a Stellaride episode, it seems highly likely that Chicago Fire might be about to sideline the majority of its series regular cast.

Across all of the promotional materials released by NBC, the only characters we see featured or mentioned are Kidd and Severide. There is no mention of any other character in the synopsis, and we don’t see any other member of the Chicago Fire cast in the photos or promo for the episode, which suggests that the events of the episode will keep us away from Firehouse 51.
And this is not just speculation. We saw a similar pattern heading into Chicago Fire season 14, episode 18; however, at the time, we didn’t realize what the promotional materials were telling us. Leading up to the episode, the only characters featured in the promotional materials for the episode were Violet, Novak, and Vasquez. We thought that this was perhaps because they were simply at the heart of the central storyline for the episode, only for the show to sideline every other member of the show’s ensemble for an episode that centered exclusively on the three series regulars.
Given that the promotional materials for Chicago Fire season 15, episode 4, only include Severide and Kidd, it seems very likely that this will be a self-contained episode that sidelines the rest of the show’s core ensemble. If that ends up being the case, it would be the first time in the show’s history in which an episode featured only two series regulars, which would be wild when you think about it. I guess that’s the tradeoff for getting a Stellaride episode, but we’re sure fans are going to have some thoughts about the show sidelining the majority of its cast in the process.
We'll find out if the writers indeed sideline the majority of the Firehouse 51 team when Chicago Fire season 15, episode 4 airs!
