A new year has officially begun and while January will welcome the return of NBC’s One Chicago shows, fans still have to wait a little longer before new episodes of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD return to their screens.
That’s right, there will sadly not be new episodes of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD airing on New Year’s Day which is not entirely surprising given it’s a holiday and many networks do tend to avoid airing new episodes on holidays. While we won’t get new episodes of the One Chicago shows, NBC is still planning on airing reruns in its primetime block this evening. So if you are missing the One Chicago shows and want to spend the first night of the new year with the doctors at Med, first responders of Chicago Fire, or the Intelligence Unit, there are encores of the show’s second episodes of the current seasons coming your way.
For those looking forward to new episodes, we’ll finally see Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD return from their winter breaks on Jan. 8 with the first new episodes of the new year. This will bring an end to the shows’ longest break of the season, a break which began after the Nov. 20 fall finales and has lasted a whopping six weeks!
Surprisingly, NBC is keeping its cards close to the vest still and hasn’t released the official synopsis information for any of the One Chicago winter premiere episodes; however, we expect the first episodes of the new year are going to be quite eventful given how each show came to a close with their fall finales.
January, in general, should be a great month for One Chicago viewers. Not only do the shows finally return from their winter break, but the month will end with the first One Chicago crossover event since October 2019! The epic three-show crossover event will drop on Jan. 29 and promises to be an event fans won’t want to miss as we get to see the casts of our three favorite NBC dramas come together for an unforgettable night of action.
Not only will the crossover be the first One Chicago three-show crossover NBC has pulled off in over five years, but it will also mark the first One Chicago crossover for many characters on the show which means we can look forward to seeing some characters interacting for the very first time across the three-hour event!
So while the first Wednesday of the new year might come without new episodes, it goes without saying that January will be quite a month for One Chicago fans who will surely be counting down the days to the shows’ winter premieres on Jan. 8 and the crossover event on Jan. 29!
