The initial viewership totals for the 2026 One Chicago crossover event are in, and, once again, the numbers speak for themselves in proving just how valuable the annual crossover events are for the franchise!
The three-episode “Reckoning” event averaged 6.3 million total viewers across the night’s new Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD episodes, with each series logging a season high for its respective broadcast. Chicago Med’s hour of the crossover saw the biggest peak of the night with 6.4 million total viewers, with Chicago Fire opening the night to 6.3 million viewers and Chicago PD closing the night with 6.1 million total viewers.
The crossover episodes of the shows brought not only the season's most-watched episodes but also sizable upticks in the shows’ viewership. Chicago Fire was up 13% from its February 4 episode, Chicago Med rose 11%, and Chicago PD saw an impressive 34% surge in viewership. On the night, the One Chicago shows easily won the night for NBC, besting ABC, CBS, and Fox’s primetime offerings by a notable margin, as no other show came close to or passed the 6 million viewership mark on the night. The only show to come close was Survivor 50, which pulled in 4.9 million viewers with its second episode of the season.
Unsurprisingly, the 2026 One Chicago crossover episodes marked the most-watched episodes of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD in over a year since the 2025 “In the Trenches” crossover event aired on January 29, 2025.
The crossover events continue to draw increasing attention for Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD, making for a night of must-see, appointment TV. These events bring a lot of great attention to the franchise, encouraging fans who might otherwise wait to watch on Peacock to tune in live the night of their broadcast, while also capturing the attention of casual viewers who tune in to see the three casts come together in what is always an epic storyline.
Not only do the crossovers continue to draw season-high audiences, but the event also helps bring significant exposure for the franchise. Each year, we tend to see a rise in coverage of the One Chicago franchise timed to the crossover, bringing more attention to Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD through mainstream media outlets that aren’t typically covering the shows on a weekly basis. This not only brings the die-hard fans a lot of new content to enjoy but also exposes the franchise to potential new fans.
They can also help to encourage fans who might only be following one or two shows within the franchise to catch up on one of the sister series. For example, those who only watch Chicago Med might be more inclined to watch Chicago Fire or Chicago PD after getting to see the characters from the other shows interacting with the characters from Chicago Med. There can also be an increased interest to tune in the week after to see how certain threads from the crossover play out.
This is a very long-winded way of pointing out just how valuable the three-show crossover events are to NBC and the franchise as a whole.
We at One Chicago Center know how incredible the cast and crew behind Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD are, and how amazing the shows are, and it’s always nice to see the positive attention the crossovers bring to the shows. Hopefully, NBC will continue to see the value as well and ensure the crossover remains a part of annual programming plans come 2027!
