Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD have aired their final new episodes of the season and the summer break has officially begun for NBC’s One Chicago shows.
We knew the moment was coming as May always brings about the finales, but we certainly weren’t prepared to see the shows sign off so early in the month with the finals coming before the halfway point in the month. This sets the stage for a longer summer break than usual, but the one thing fans looked to take comfort in was the potential of some One Chicago reruns ahead during the summer months.
The good news is that NBC is planning on airing encore episodes of the One Chicago shows in the weeks ahead, but fans won’t be seeing all three One Chicago shows back together on the schedule for some time, it seems.
Now that the seasons have ended, NBC’s schedule will be shifting in the weeks ahead, and One Chicago Wednesdays are going to be down a show. This is because beginning Wednesday, May 27, NBC will be airing new episodes of Brilliant Minds at 8 p.m., which will prevent the network from airing reruns of all three One Chicago shows on Wednesday nights as the summer schedule begins.
Going off the schedule for May 27, it looks like Chicago Med is going to sadly be the One Chicago show impacted by this scheduling move. With Brilliant Minds airing at 8 p.m., Chicago Med is getting pulled from the schedule, with the plan being for the new episode of Brilliant Minds to air at 8/7c, followed by returns of Chicago Fire and Chicago PD at 9/8c and 10/9c, respectively.
It’s unclear whether NBC will be sticking with this schedule during the entirety of Brilliant Minds’ final episodes, but it seems like an understandable schedule play. Like Chicago Med, Brilliant Minds is a medical drama, so NBC has essentially swapped Chicago Med out of the One Chicago block to bring Brilliant Minds fans the final episodes of the show.
We know that Brilliant Minds has six episodes to air, which means that the series finale will release on Wednesday, July 1. This means the absolute earliest we could see all three One Chicago shows back together would be Wednesday, July 8—but that’s a big if, as we know that come August NBC will be pulling the One Chicago shows entirely to make way for America’s Got Talent result show episodes and new episodes of The Wall.
There is a chance that NBC might air a few weeks of One Chicago reruns in July and before America’s Got Talent and The Wall take over the Wednesday night programming block, but if that doesn’t happen this means we’ll have to wait until the fall to see all three One Chicago shows back together on the schedule.
