Chicago Fire fans might want to begin bracing themselves, as we could be in store for yet another episode in which most of the show’s core characters fail to appear!

As fans will recall, Chicago Fire season 14, episode 16 unexpectedly sidelined more than half of the series regular cast in a move that divided fans. The episode put a spotlight on Squad 3 and gave us the chance to see Severide, Cruz, Capp, and Tony step into the spotlight through the episode’s core storylines. However, the handoff for this approach was that Kidd, Herrmann, Mouch, Violet, Novak, and Vasquez were all sidelined in the episode with a brief explanation of their absence early on and no further mention of the group after.

Some fans appreciated how the episode gave us an episode led by the members of Squad 3 and some impactful storylines, including the return of Chloe and Javi as part of a major Cruz family storyline. Others were not impressed by the episode and hated to see so many core characters sidelined at once, calling the episode one of the season’s weakest.

Well, it seems we’re about to get yet another episode in which several members of the cast might be sidelined.

Chicago Fire season 14, episode 18, “Instinct,” is shaping up to put a primary focus on Violet and Novak with the pair being thrust into a dangerous situation. It begins when a man calls for their help and takes them back to his home under the guise of his pregnant girlfriend being in labor and needing help. When they arrive on the scene, they find that the woman is neither pregnant or his girlfriend. This young woman is being held captive by the man, who then takes Violet and Novak hostage, threatening them at gunpoint.

The episode promises to be a major episode for Violet and Novak as the pair must rely on their instincts to protect themselves and the young woman being held captive. And this is where our fear comes in that the episode could be one which sidelines many other characters in telling this unique storyline with Violet and Novak.

All of the promotional materials for episode 18 are centered around the pair, with the only other main character appearing in any materials for the episode being Vasquez. The last time we saw something like this was episode 16, when the promo, photos, and episode synopsis only featured Squad 3. That episode ended up being without most of the cast, which is why it seems there is a good chance that episode 18 could be without many members of the Chicago Fire cast as the focus is put on Violet and Novak.

We’ll have to wait and see which other characters appear in the episode, but fans might want to begin bracing themselves for the likely possibility that Chicago Fire’s next episode might be without several characters.
