The Firehouse 51 family was put through the ringer in the One Chicago crossover, and it seems the writers won’t be taking their feet off the gas pedal as we enter the next new episode!

As teased in the synopsis for Chicago Fire season 14, episode 14, “Hit and Run,” someone at Firehouse 51 is about to face what is described as being a “potentially life-changing decision.” No further details are provided about which character might be faced with this major decision or what the decision will be, but there is a telling scene in the promo for the episode that seems to suggest it will be Kidd that has a potential life-changing decision to make.

In the closing moments of the promo that aired after the One Chicago crossover, we see Severide telling a teary-eyed Kidd, “We’re in this together, every step of the way.” This particular scene appears to take place at the couple’s home, which has us wondering if perhaps this decision could have something to do with the pair looking to start a family.

Could it be that after some time has passed following Isaiah’s departure, Kidd is ready to open up their home to another foster child? Or perhaps Kidd might be ready to actively try to have a baby? This would certainly be a life-changing decision, one that would impact her career as a firefighter. It’s one that we would love to see explored as it would give Chicago Fire a very unique opportunity in that no firefighter show on air has explored the fallout that comes with being a pregnant firefighter on the job.

With the finale fast approaching, now would be the perfect time to introduce this storyline and lead to a payoff in the finale. Though if we go that route, we’re going to need them to not just trust a home pregnancy test, as we can’t take another false positive fakeout again. If the writers are going to go this route, we need them to fully commit,, and, honestly, it's time that they allow Kidd and Severide to finally start their family after all the ups and downs the journey has brought.

Of course, this life-changing decision might not have anything to do with the couple’s ongoing family storyline. There is also a chance that this could be connected to a career opportunity of some kind; however, there is just something about the backdrop of this scene being in their home and Kidd being teary-eyed that makes us think this could be a personal decision rather than a professional one.

Perhaps witnessing the events of the chemical attack and seeing how short life is, Kidd realized how much she wants to be a mother and start a family. Speaking of the crossover, we also have to wonder if adoption could come into play, as it seems interesting that the one victim pulled from the plane just so happened to be a pregnant woman.

Could we come to learn that there was no father in the picture and no family could be found for the woman, meaning that the child she delivered before her death will be in need of care? If that is the case, we could certainly see Kidd wanting to step up and be there for the child, be it by fostering the baby or even pursuing adoption. If that is a route Kidd would be interested in pursuing, there is no doubt that Severide would support her and be there every step of the way, as he promises.

We’ll find out what this potentially life-changing decision might be when Chicago Fire season 14, episode 14, “Hit and Run,” airs Wednesday, March 11, at 9/8c on NBC.
