If you have been a long time fan of Chicago Fire, or any of the One Chicago shows, then you are no stranger to being worried that your favorite characters could be in danger of leaving at a moment's notice. Whether they are actually in harm's way and could be killed off the show or they might just be another victim of being written off, there's always a reason to worry about your favorite character.

Lately, Chicago Fire fans have been feeling some stress regarding season 14's new addition Brandon Larracuente, who plays troubled firefighter Sal Vasquez. All season, we have watched as he untangled his complicated past with his father and, most recently, found himself in a love triangle between Novak and Violet. Now, Vasquez has been expressing interests outside of Firehouse 51.

In Chicago Fire season 14 episode 15, expressed that he had always dreamed about joining the police force and would kill for a second chance at achieving that dream. Even though Kidd assured him that he still has time to join the police academy and make that dream a reality, he insisted that he's where he's meant to be. But is that still the truth after a recent development in the penultimate episode?

In episode 20, Novak and Vasquez offhandedly chat about how busy Molly's was the night before and joke to Vasquez about missing him on their night out. When they tease him about blowing them off to go to a cop bar instead, he only responds to them with, "Something like that."

They don't have the chance to continue their conversation, but it's yet another instance of Vasquez yearning for police work. If he's going out to cop bars, is he actually thinking about pursuing a new career?

Combined with his conversation with Kidd in episode 15 about still having time to attend the police academy, Vasquez was also shown in the same episode further contemplating police work. Once again, he skipped hanging out with the team at Molly's for target practice at the gun range.

Before leaving range, he notices a poster for joining the police academy on the way out. While he didn't directly engage with the poster in a meaningful way, he does pause to take the poster in and consider it. Clearly, even though he told Kidd that he landed where he was meant to as a firefighter, the thought of following his dream is still on his mind.

Ahead of the Chicago Fire season 14 finale, there haven't been any indications that Brandon Larracuente will leave the series after only one season, but we can't help but continue to be worried about what the show could have planned for Vasquez and his future at Firehouse 51.

Larracuente has been one of the best new additions to the cast in years, and while Vasquez's storylines have been up and down, Chicago Fire shouldn't send him down a path that would hurt his character development as a firefighter. He should be given material to make him a vital member of this team, not a quick cop out (pun intended) that diminishes the character's potential.
