Chicago Fire season 14 is nearly in the books with just two episodes left in the season before the show begins its annual summer hiatus. With just two episodes left this season, it’s clear that the show has been building towards what has been described as an “epic” finale.

Of course, one of the biggest storylines on the minds of the fans as we head into the final episodes of the season is how the Severide and Hopkins storyline will play out. Hopkins has officially reported Severide to Internal Affairs, and the investigation could end up costing Severide his job in the CFD. While Hargraves offered Severide a potential out to fighting the IA investigation by offering him the position of Commander of OFI, we get a sense that Severide is not going to back down from this fight and allow Hopkins to push him out of 51.

As Severide and Kidd go to battle to clear his name, we expect that answers about Hopkins’ past with Benny will soon come to light. The question is what did Benny reprimand Hopkins for back in the day, and how will the information help Severide out of this situation he’s found himself in, if at all?

We’re eager to see how the storyline will be resolved as the season closes out and it appears that Severide and Kidd could be getting some additional support in their fight against Hopkins. The Chicago Fire season 14 finale synopsis teases that “Severide and Kidd welcome a surprise visitor,” and we have to wonder if this visitor’s arrival could be to help them clear Severide’s name.

In addition to featuring a surprise visitor, the season 14 finale will also bring about a moment of celebration when Herrmann and Cindy renew their vows. It’s a moment we didn’t expect to occur in the season finale, but one that honestly feels so fitting and right.

This season has been a really rough season for Herrmann and Cindy. The loss of their house in the fire turned their world upside down, but their love for one another and their family never wavered. After all they’ve been through, it’s going to be nice to get to see the season end with a celebration of their love via the vow renewal.

The final piece of information NBC has teased about the Chicago Fire season 14 finale is that Mouch will receive some “encouraging news.” There is no context as to what this news could be, but we have to wonder if it will perhaps have something to do with the memoir he has begun writing.

Could the encouraging news be that a publisher is interested in his book? That seems like a likely option given the timing of the show introducing the storyline about Mouch’s memoir so close to the season’s close. That type of news could then allow the show to carry this storyline into season 15 with Mouch working on the book and then getting to see it hit shelves sometime down the line.

Of course, these are just the three threads from the finale that NBC has shared. It’s almost certain that the final episode of the season will feature more surprises than just the visitor dropping by to see Kidd and Severide.

Fans will find out for certain when the Chicago Fire season 14 finale airs on Wednesday, May 13, at 9/8c on NBC!
