Chicago Fire season 15 finally made its premiere, and the first episode answered a number of the question that were lingering from the season 14 finale. Naturally, we all wanted to know who, if anyone, would die in the warehouse fire. In that regard, the Firehouse 51 squad is safe and sound, though Cruz is worse for the wear and the department is facing intense scrutiny.

But Chicago Fire season 15 episode 1 also answered other questions that fans spent all summer thinking about, like whether Severide would accept a new position at the OFI and if he and Kidd decided to take in Isaiah full time. Well, there's an interesting update on that front, but the season 15 premiere gave far more definitive closure on last season's frustrating love triangle.

When Brandon Larracuente joined the Chicago Fire cast in season 14 as the new firefighter Sal Vasquez, the character quickly became the object of Violet's affection... and then Novak's. Both of the paramedics were interested in Vasquez, with the love triangle getting more complicated as Novak acted on her feelings, but season 15 has finally put this unnecessary chaos to bed.

Chicago Fire resolves the Violet, Vasquez, and Novak love triangle

And we don't mean "to bed" in some kind of salacious, tongue-in-cheek way. The love triangle between Vasquez, Novak, and Violet appears to be over... for good this time. When we catch back up with Vasquez during the time-jump montage, he has moved on without a new woman, as he's shown kissing her in bed in the morning while getting dressed, and she looks to be a police officer.

Despite the fact that Vasquez moved on, there was still lingering tension between him and Novak back in the firehouse, and it wasn't the good kind of tension. There were unresolved issues between the pair and things that had been left unsaid. They tried to avoid having an uncomfortable conversation, but after Novak's unfortunate run-in with a car (literally), they can't avoid it anymore.

Finally, they agree to move forward and act like everything is normal between them. Whether that's the truth remains to be seen, but at the very least, we can rest assured that the love triangle between Vasquez, Novak, and Violet is done. On her end, Violet could be moving on as well after reuniting with an old friend from school, the newspaper reporter Jacob Morales.

Violet's personal life seems to be taking a new direction, and we can safely confirm she no longer has feelings for Vasquez. After all, the show didn't benefit from putting Violet in a love triangle with Novak, who is her closest coworker and best friend. While it was a worthy storyline to explore, Chicago Fire didn't exactly pull it off this time. But no harm no foul, right?

There could still be something between Vasquez and Novak because even though they settled their differences, neither of them seems to actually be over the situation. They care for each other whether they're willing to admit it, and they aren't for whatever reason. Novak has turned her attention to Marcus Burke, one of the new firefighter candidates who has arrived at Firehouse 51.

It's unclear if Chicago Fire intends to turn the initial connection between Novak and Burke into something romantic, since Novak was only being friendly and welcoming to him in the premiere. Will she use him to make Vasquez jealous? Have they both really moved on? If so, who has Vasquez been secretly hooking up with? We're ready for season 15 to dive right in.
