As Chicago Fire season 13, episode 17 opened, we were updated on where Kidd and Severide are in their adoption journey. They’re waiting, and that wait is excruciating. Both of them are looking for ways to distract themselves from the wait, but the wait may not need to be as long as they initially think it will.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Chicago Fire season 13, episode 17.

Severide was quick to remind Kidd that they could be waiting months to even a year for the adoption agency to find a baby for them. There’s no point in Kidd getting a crib or set up a nursery. However, there may be another reason not to get a crib.

It’s highly likely that Stellaride won’t end up raising a young child or a baby. Chicago Fire just gave them the perfect potential storyline.

Stella Kidd got a blast from the past without realizing it in Chicago Fire

During the episode, a girl called Natalie walked into the firehouse looking for Kidd. She shared that she goes to the Horizons Community Center, so Kidd isn’t thrown off when Natalie knows how Kidd rose through the ranks quickly. It was only when she learned that Natalie never asked Amy at Horizons for information about Girls on Fire or Kidd that the mystery unfolded.

Kidd went on a mission to find the teenager, only to realize that the address on file was fake. So, she decided to do some more digging, only to learn that Natalie was four at the time she and Kidd first met each other. While Kidd was at Firehouse 27, she attended a call at a housefire, and sure enough Natalie was the kid in that housefire. She must have remember Kidd from that.

Kidd wants to give a girl like her a chance

This opens up the perfect adoption storyline. When Kidd told Severide that she wanted a child but didn’t want to be pregnant, she made a point of wanting to help a girl like her. Her aunt took her in when she was an older child and not a baby. So, if Kidd wants to help a girl like her, why are they looking to adopt a baby?

There are many teenagers out there who need to find an adoptive family. Herrmann has already noticed how great Kidd is with a bunch of teenage girls. There are high chances that we’ll find out that something happened to Natalie’s family, and she’s homeless, living on the streets. As Kidd learns more about this girl that she once saved, there’s a good chance that she’ll want to save again. She and Severide get to help a girl just like Kidd once was.

Chicago Fire airs on Wednesdays at 9/8c on NBC.
