Stellaride are set to be parents! It's a wonderful development in the lives of the married couple, and one that will greatly shift their priorities as people. Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) have always placed an emphasis upon their careers.

Now, they will be tasked with emphasizing the lives of a small child. The actors who play Kidd and Severide have been mostly quiet on the matter, but Miranda Rae Mayo finally broke her silence in a recent interview with Us Weekly. She broke down what fans can expect from a Stellaride parenting arc, and how the duo will go about their newfound duties.

Kidd is predicted to be the tougher parent

Mayo admits that her character never expected to be a mother, let alone someone pushing to start a family of her own, given how much trauma and loss she had to contend with as a kid. “Stella is in love with Kelly," she explained. "I don't think she ever was a woman who wanted to be married. I don't think she ever envisioned that type of, you know, wife and kids type of life for herself."

Severide used to be opposed to the notion of having children as well. Now, it seems, he cannot get enough of the idea. Both characters are excited to have a little one in their lives, but Mayo confirmed that one parent would have to be strict and the other would be to be a bit more fun.

"I do think Stella would be the bad cop for sure," she asserted. "I think Kelly presents a stoic [exterior], but he would melt whenever his offspring was asking for something of him," the actress added. "He'd be like, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah. Stella just give it to him.'"

A parenting arc will revitalize both characters

We'd be hard-pressed to disagree with Mayo. She knows her character, and Severide's, inside out, which is why venturing into this uncharted territory is so exciting. There has been an underlying sense that the characters have been spinning their wheels a bit, narratively speaking, since they got married in season 10.

There's been some confusion over Severide's career path in the seasons since, but it hasn't really been enough to work as a full-fledged, let alone popular, arc. Seeing the married couple embark on parenthood feels like a great way to spice their dynamic up while showing us different sides of their personalities. We're ready for their good cop, bad cop routine. Are you?
