We don't want to say goodbye to any Chicago Fire stars. Our attachment to each of the characters who work at Firehouse 51 is what makes the show so appealing. Unfortunately, we will be forced to part ways with both Darren Ritter, played by Daniel Kyri, and Sam Carver, played by Jake Lockett in season 13.
Kyri issued a statement to fans regarding his upcoming exit, but Lockett remained quiet. The actor did not comment on his future, or lack thereof, with Chicago Fire, until the afternoon of Monday, April 28. He posted a lengthy message on Instagram, detailing just how much the cast and crew and fans have meant to him over the last few years.
Jake Lockett released a Chicago Fire video tribute
"While I don’t exactly know what the future looks like, I do know that it won’t be exactly what it was and I am going to miss the hell out of that," Lockett admitted. "So much pride in this journey." He explained that he has loved bringing the character of Carver to life, noting the love and support that he received along the way.
In case emotions weren't high enough, Lockett included a video montage of behind-the-scenes clips from the Chicago Fire set. These clips include Lockett laughing and messing around with co-stars like Christian Stolte and David Eigenberg. There's also lots of dancing, courtesy of Jocelyn Hudon and Hanako Greensmith. "Almost forgot that this is whole point," Lockett wrote over the montage.
It's clear that the actor has developed special bonds with the Chicago Fire cast, and the joy he's shared with them is made undeniably bittersweet by the fact that he will not be coming back for future seasons. Still, the actor assured, the friendships he made during his time on the show will persist.
Lockett "cherished" his time playing Carver

"Most importantly, the people that I was on the ground with day and night," the actor noted. "Thank you for the family you are and times you have been and will be there for me. If you’re not in one of these clips, there will be more to follow. So many cherished memories."
We highly recommend following Jake Lockett on Instagram if you want to see more photos and detailed accounts of his time on Chicago Fire. It's one thing for an actor to leave a show on their own accord, and it's another when the decision is made for him. It's a shame Lockett falls under the latter camp, but at least get to see him for a few more episodes.
