Chicago Fire’s loss has become The Night Agent’s gain! After quietly leaving NBC’s hit firefighter drama, Annabeth Gish has joined the cast of the final season of Netflix’s hit political thriller in a major recurring role in the show’s final season.
As first reported by Deadline, Gish is among three stars who have joined the cast of The Night Agent season 4 in roles that will round out the main cast for the fourth and final season of the Gabriel Basso-led drama. Gish will be playing Holland, an FBI agent who joins the DOJ investigation into Basso’s character, Peter Sutherland. In other words, get ready to see Gish once again taking on a role that will have her in opposition to the show’s central characters.
It’s unclear how many episodes Gish will appear in, but with her recurring status for the season being described as a “major recurring” part in the final season, we imagine we’ll be seeing a lot of Agent Holland.
In addition to Gish, The Night Agent season 4 will also be welcoming Abigail Breslin and David Denman to the cast in series regular roles. The trio of new additions will join previously announced new series regulars Titus Welliver, Trevante Rhodes, Li Jun Li, and Elizabeth Lail. Production on the final season kicked off on May 4 in Los Angeles with season 4 slated to arrive sometime in 2027.
The Night Agent is the first major role for Gish following her quiet exit from Chicago Fire earlier this year.
Gish joined the Chicago Fire cast in the recurring role of Annette Davis, the Chief of Staff for Mayor Benning, in the season 14 premiere. She appeared in several episodes at the top of the season, growing close to Dermot Mulroney’s character, Chief Pascal. She was a character who walked the line between friend and foe, playing a role in this season’s central focus involving budget cuts within the CFD.
After making several appearances in the early episodes of the season, Annette quietly disappeared from the show after her appearance in season 14, episode 8, “A Man Possessed,” which aired on January 7. Gish’s exit was not hinted at in the episode with the door left open for her to return, but sadly the character has not been seen since.
With just two episodes left this season, it’s unlikely fans will see Annette back on Chicago Fire in season 14, and it remains to be seen whether she’ll return at any point in season 15. Given her status as the mayor’s Chief of Staff, it would be easy for the writers to work her character back into the mix; however, it's looking unlikely that they have any plans for her return.
Thankfully, fans can look forward to seeing her in The Night Agent season 4 when it arrives on Netflix in 2027!
