Chicago Fire fans may never get the opportunity to see Joe Minoso and Yuriy Sardarov reunite on Chicago Fire, but they can look forward to the duo reuniting in an exciting new way – one that will bring the pair together on-screen for the first time in seven years!
Throughout Chicago Fire's early seasons, the friendship between Cruz and Otis was the emotional heart of Firehouse 51, balancing the show's high-stakes rescues with humor and genuine brotherhood. Whether they were pulling pranks, supporting each other through life's biggest moments, or simply sharing a laugh around the firehouse, Cruz and Otis became one of the series' most beloved duos, which was a large part of why Otis' death remains one of the most devastating deaths in the entire One Chicago franchise.
Minoso and Sardarov’s chemistry together was magnetic and played a key role in making their characters’ friendship feel so authentic. It was a crushing blow when Otis died at the top of season 8, and the emotional weight was even heavier with Cruz being the one by his side when Otis took his final breath.
Chicago Fire has done a great job of keeping Otis’ legacy alive, but it’s not quite the same as when we had the chance to see Minoso and Sardarov together on-screen. We’ve missed seeing the pair working together, but thankfully a new short film is about to reunite the pair for the first time on-screen since Sardarov’s exit from Chicago Fire back in 2019!
Sardarov and Minoso will be teaming up on the new short film Long Lost, which recently wrapped production after a week-long shoot.
Producer Erick Juarez broke the news via Instagram during filming, announcing Sardarov’s casting in the project.
“Seeing Joe Minoso and Yuriy Sardarov reunite on the set of Long Lost brought smiles all around. There’s something special about watching longtime collaborators create together again, and we can’t wait for you to see what they’re making.”
Sardarov will be playing ICE Agent Ford in the short film, while Minoso is pulling double duty on the project, serving as director and also starring as Ernesto. Little is known about their characters or the plot for the short film, but we do know the heart of the story will be about two brothers.
With filming wrapped, more information about the project is expected to be announced in the weeks ahead, including the official release date for Long Lost. Hopefully, as post-production comes together, more information will be released about how Minoso and Sardarov’s characters will be connected in the film.
We’re certainly excited to see the pair back together on-screen again and can’t believe it’s been seven years since they last shared scenes together on Chicago Fire and somehow hadn’t collaborated sooner than Long Lost. But as they say, some things are worth the wait, and there is no doubt that the reunion of Minoso and Sardarov will be well worth the wait when Long Lost finally drops!
