If there is one thing that Chicago Fire fans have come to expect from the show’s season finale, it’s payoff to the season’s ongoing storylines as well as season-ending cliffhangers that keep us talking all through the summer break. Fans expect nothing short of greatness from the One Chicago finales and it seems that the creative team behind Chicago Fire has come up with a storyline that the cast promises will be epic and crazy!

“The finale’s crazy. There’s some fire. It’s an epic finale episode, and I think the fans will be very happy with it or excited by it or entertained by it at least,” Jocelyn Hudon told TV Insider, previewing what’s to come in the final episode of season 14.

Adding to what Hudon teased, Hanako Greensmith promised that the season finale will “touch on everything we do best,” while teasing that the cliffhanger that the season ends on will “definitely leave the fans wanting more.”

Understandably so, the pair were unable to provide too much information about the events of the finale; however, it seems that the finale might bring the Severide and Hopkins storyline to a head.

As Greensmith teased, at the end of the day, Chicago Fire is always putting a primary focus on the theme of family and what it means. This is something that will remain at the core of the final episodes as Severide goes to bat against Hopkins, who is determined to tear him down and push him out of the CFD as a result of the decades-old grudge he has against Severide’s father, Benny.

“You’ll also see our wonderful lead characters really, I think, step forward in a way that’ll be really exciting for the storyline and for the audience, and it’ll really tie in, I think, what we need to see for the finale. So it’ll all end on an exciting story that I can’t give away,” Greensmith previewed of the finale.

The tease makes complete sense, as it’s hard to imagine a world in which the Firehouse 51 team does not rally behind Severide as his career in the CFD hangs in the balance. We know that it’s going to be a hard-fought battle ahead, and Severide is going to need his 51 family along the way, even if he doesn’t want to admit it up front and allow his colleagues to show up for him in this time of need.

Now that Hopkins has fired off his first major shot in reporting Severide to Internal Affairs, the battle is about to begin. With just three episodes left this season, it’s going to be interesting to see how this storyline plays out in the final episodes of the season. One thing that is certain is that fans should not expect resolution to come until the finale, as we imagine the next two episodes will build up to a final showdown between Hopkins and Severide in the season 14 finale.

Hopefully, the season will end with Severide coming through on the other side, having cleared his name and being officially promoted to captain. But we’ll have to wait to see if we get a happy ending or if the show chooses to end the season on more of a somber note with a cliffhanger that either makes us wait to learn Severide’s fate or hints his time at 51 could be coming to an end.

With the Chicago Fire season 14 finale slated for May 13, we’ll find out soon enough just how the writers choose to end the season, but it’s certain that we’re in store for an epic and intense finale!
