After 11 seasons, Chicago Med is finally about to introduce a character we had honestly almost given up hope of meeting.
As first reported by Deadline, NBC’s hit medical drama has cast Gbenga Akinnagbe as Sharon Goodwin’s son, David. It’s unclear when exactly we’ll first meet David, but it has been revealed that Akinnagbe will be joining the show in a recurring role, suggesting he’s going to play a key role in Goodwin’s storyline this season and will appear in multiple episodes this season.
Despite being eleven seasons into Chicago Med’s run, we’ve somehow never met David before in the show. That’s right, this is not a recasting. Akinnagbe will be originating the role of Goodwin’s often mentioned, but never seen son!
Over the years, we’ve heard David mentioned in conversation, with our most recent update revealing that he was expecting his first child. That’s finally going to change in season 11 as we get to officially meet Akinnagbe and learn more about his relationship with both Goodwin and his father, Bert. After all these years, it’s going to be exciting to see the dynamic between David and Goodwin explored in the show.
We’re also hoping that perhaps the show will finally see all three of Goodwin and Bert’s children appear on-screen together in a moment that would be 11 seasons in the making.
The Goodwin family tree began to branch out early in the show’s run when Hampton Fluker joined the cast as her son, Michael. Michael was the first of Goodwin’s three kids to be featured on the show, first appearing in season 5 and popping up a few times over the years, with his most recent appearance coming in season 9.
A few years after we met Michael, Chicago Med introduced Goodwin’s daughter, Tara, played by Nicollette Robinson. Of Goodwin’s three kids, we’ve seen the most of Tara in recent seasons with Robinson appearing in several season 9 episodes and last guest starring in season 10.
The relationships between Goodwin and her kids have each been unique in nature, so it’s going to be exciting to see what her relationship with David will look like. They’ve never been said to be on bad terms, but the fact that we’ve never seen him on the show has us wondering if perhaps there could be a rift of sorts between the pair.
We’ll find out soon enough now that David is finally making his way through the Windy City via this recurring arc in Chicago Med season 11!
