Chicago Med is about to pull off the most shocking and unexpected returns

The Chicago Med season 10 fall finale is about to welcome a blast from the past with the eighth episode of the season bringing back an original member of the cast, last seen way back in season 4! 

As teased in the promo for the episode, “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” original cast member Rachel DiPillo is staging a comeback more than six years after exiting the series, reprising her role as Dr. Charles’ former psych resident Dr. Sarah Reese. 

DiPillo’s Dr. Reese was a central part of the show’s first three seasons with her mentor/mentee relationship with Dr. Charles standing out as a favorite among fans. Sadly, the two characters did not end on the best of terms with Dr. Reese leaving Med in the season 4 premiere when she chose to continue her residency at another hospital after learning the truth that Dr. Charles nearly let her father die. Given Dr. Reese’s dad was a serial killer, we couldn’t fault Dr. Charles for his actions but it proved to be a betrayal too large for Reese to look past and it led to her exit from the show. 

In the seasons that have followed, there have been few references to Dr. Reese but it seems she’s finally about to make her way back to Med… and it seems she still hasn’t forgiven Dr. Charles for the actions of the past. 

As we see in the promo for the episode, things are more than a little icy between the two and the synopsis for the episode teases that Dr. Reese and Dr. Charles are about to clash over the treatment of a depressed patient. 

It’s going to be interesting to see Dr. Reese back after all these years, but we’re excited to learn what she’s been up to and to see whether this guest appearance could turn into something larger. Regardless, we’re excited to see her back as her exit left us wanting more from the character and we’re excited to see DiPillo scrubbing back in!
