Chicago Med is preparing for the upcoming crossover event just like the other One Chicago shows. It's also preparing for new standalone episodes as well, however. Shaw Local News Network, a local Chicago outlet, confirmed that Med is planning on shooting action-packed scenes next month, for what will almost certainly make the cut in season 10's second half.
Shaw Local News Network reported that Chicago Med will be setting up camp in Prairie Grove, a village in Illinois, for the first leg of January 2025. The NBC production team will be prepping the shoot from January 2 to 6, and filming from January 8 to 10. The shoot will require Gracy Road to shut down during the latter batch of dates.
Chicago Med will feature a car crash in a rural area
One Chicago picking a real Windy City location is nothing new, but what makes this development so exciting is that details from the scene have been provided. The outlet claimed that the scene being shot will feature a character driving in a "rural area at night" before crashing into another car that's pulled over on the side of the road.
Apparently, emergency vehicles and ambulances will be present on location, likely in response to the aforementioned crash. Dustin Schoenfeld, Chicago Med's Assistant Location Manager, sent out an email to Prairie Grove residents providing additional details.
"As he gets out of the car to assess the damage, he notices no one inside the other vehicle," he said. "He walks into the field to find that the driver of the vehicle has fallen into a hole adjacent to the vehicle. He goes into emergency mode to try and rescue the other driver.”
The location will be closed from January 8-10
It sounds like a riveting scene, and one that will undoubtedly serve as a centerpiece for whichever January episode it will be a part of. Given the scheduling, it's safe to assume that it will not appear in the Chicago Med winter premiere. There is a chance that it could occur during the crossover event, but seeing as the crossover will focus on a high rise disaster, the rural car crash doesn't really fit in.
There's also the mystery of the "he" described in Dustin Schoenfeld's email. There's purposely vague information on who the character involved in the crash is, which could either mean its a victim who's never been on the show before, or a main character that Med is trying to conceal the identity of until the episode airs. Either way, we're intrigued.
