Summertime has come to an end, and the fall TV season is officially upon us! New seasons of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD are fast approaching, but after a longer summer hiatus fans might need a bit of a refresher on how things left off.
On Chicago Med, Dean and Hannah’s daughter was born after a harrowing labor involving a hostage situation and Hannah being stuck in a delivery room with a patient due to her own stubborn refusal to go on medical leave. Dean uses his army training to batten down the doors just in time to witness the delivery. Dean and Hannah name the baby Mabel, and Dean confesses to Hannah that he loves her. Unfortunately for fans who have been tortured by their on-again-off-again relationship for seasons, Hannah doesn’t return the sentiment, but she thanks him for telling her and kisses his cheek.
Love was all around in the finale at large: Caitlin Lennox and Mitch Ripley had previously gone through an amicable breakup in light of diagnosis with GSS, but Mitch finally caves and admits he lovesCaitlin too, deciding being with her is worth the risk of his heart breaking.
Elsewhere, Frost and his father finally reconciled just in time for Frost the elder to pass away, and Sharon saved Charles’ position at the hospital—only to come under fire as her own work was threatened.
On Chicago Fire, a whole bunch of characters received life-changing news—and had their lives put in jeopardy by a frightening structure fire. The majority of Squad 3 and Engine 81 were caught in a collapse and explosion, leaving the fates of multiple characters completely unknown.
Ironically, most of the news received by the gang in Thank You was good. Kelly Severide was simultaneously offered two different jobs—Captain of Firehouse 51 or a role as Chief of the
Office of Fire Investigation. His decision had not been announced at the time of the building collapse. Kelly and his wife, Stella Kidd, also received even more good news when their former foster son, Isaiah, showed up and told them he’d rather be in Chicago with Stellaride instead of with his mother while she completed rehab. Kelly and Kidd declared that they would talk about the situation with Isiah later.
Dom Pascal tried to encourage Severide to take the job, as he’d already vacated the post after being dismissed due to these actions during the pandemic that happened earlier in the year. He goes to the scene of the fire and witnesses the disaster firsthand.
Elsewhere, Mouch got a book deal, Chris Herrmann and his wife, Cindy, renewed their vows at Molly’s after a tumultuous year in which they lost their home to a fire, and Vasquez and Novak decided to go from friends-with-benefits to dating.
A much more tragic mood impacted Chicago PD’s finale. Eva Imani finally reconnected with her missing sister—only to find out that Shari has no memory of her. Shari had been trafficked but insisted that she was consensually working for her pimp, whom she now considered her husband. Voight, who had helped Imani work the case, ends up shooting Shari’s “husband,” but not before Shari points a gun at Imani, hoping to defend her “spouse.”
When she found out the man was dead, she attempted suicide and renounced Imani as she faded into unconsciousness. Imani later learned it was not the pimp but her sister who murdered a sex worker colleague of hers, leaving Imani to worry her recovering sister might be charged with murder.
