Chicago Med returned with its first new episode of 2026 with a real bang. In the midseason premiere, Lenox and Ripley fought for their lives against Devon Carter, and while both doctors made it out of the altercation alive (and with potential new sparks), the episode gave us a shocking death. But that's not the only intriguing twist that occurred in season 11's big return.
As Lenox and Ripley sorted through the aftermath of their life-or-death situation, Charles finally faced the facts that retirement could be on the horizon, but Asher and Archer also overcame a massive hurdle in their path to becoming parents. Archer helped face her nightmare-induced anxiety that something bad will happen if she has a daughter. Well, they're having a girl.
Even though Asher and Archer seemed to settle their tension, a new challenge will soon fall into their laps in Chicago Med season 11 episode 9. As the preview trailer for the next new episode revealed, a major new character will be introduced, and this person will surely drum up some drama between the expectant parents. It's finally time to meet Asher's dad.
Chicago Med season 11 episode 9 introduces Asher's dad
As the preview trailer for Chicago Med season 11 episode 9 reveals, Dr. Hannah Asher's father will be dropping by Gaffney for a visit, but it's not quite the family reunion anyone might be expecting. His arrival comes just as Asher's life got a bit more complicated with her surprise pregnancy and unique relationship with Archer. Seemingly, he doesn't approve of his daughter's decisions.

The official synopsis gives a bit more insight into what to expect from season 11 episode 9 and Mr. Asher's visit: "Tensions spike when a road rage incident sends three patients into the E.D.; Frost's former television co-star resurfaces; an unexpected arrival catches Hannah and Archer off guard." Obviously, Asher wasn't anticipating her dad to drop in and stir up some chaos.
In the video, Asher appears to be thrilled to reunite with her father, who we haven't met in the series before, but the visit soon turns sour when he and Archer butt heads. While we don't yet know what Asher's dad has to say about her pregnancy and relationship with Archer, we do catch a glimpse at Archer arguing with her dad and pushing back against his doubts about his daughter.
New images from Chicago Med season 11 episode 9 tease Asher and Archer sitting down for a meal with Asher's dad. Curiously, they're still in their white coats, which suggests that their sit-down conversation will take place somewhere in the hospital. It's not clear at what point their meal happens. Had arguments already gone down, or are they in the process of squashing beef?
In the episode trailer, the nurses in the ED also poke fun at Asher that she has "daddy issues," which they most definitely mean literally. Both her father and the father of her baby have issues with each other, and she will probably have to play mediator between them to smooth things over. That's probably what we're seeing above. More than anything, it's exciting to meet another member of Asher's family!
