NCIS fans aren’t going to want to miss the twelfth episode of Chicago Med as it seems we’ve got a bit of an unexpected crossover of sorts coming our way on Wednesday!
As confirmed via newly released photos for episode 12, “In The Wake,” Chicago Med has cast NCIS: New Orleans star CCH Pounder, and it seems we can look forward to seeing the legendary star appearing opposite another true legend. While the name of Pounder’s character is not yet known, it appears she’ll be a part of the Psychiatry Department at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center and will play a key role in Goodwin’s storyline.
Photos from the episode see Pounder’s character sitting down with Goodwin, suggesting that she’ll play a key role in helping Goodwin work through the trauma she went through when she was attacked in her office and nearly killed by the spouse of a former patient at Med. We saw Goodwin throw herself back into work during the crossover, which created an all-hands-on-deck situation, but the crossover didn’t truly allow us the chance to explore Goodwin’s headspace in returning to work after her attack.
Episode 12 will allow us to finally begin seeing Goodwin working through that trauma, and we’re excited to see the show follow through with the storyline rather than acting as though nothing happened and moving on. We’ve seen in the promo that Goodwin is haunted by the event and seeing her attacker, and it’s going to be interesting to see how she works through things with help from Pounder’s character.
Given how headstrong Goodwin is, we wouldn’t be surprised if speaking with Pounder’s character was not a personal choice but rather a psych evaluation mandated by the hospital to help clear her for returning to work after her attack. This could make for an interesting dynamic between the characters as we imagine Goodwin might not be as forthcoming upfront in sharing her feelings.
It’ll be interesting to see if this ends up being a one-off guest appearance for Pounder or if her character will appear in multiple episodes this season. We’d honestly love to see her guest in more than a few episodes, but honestly, we’re just thrilled to see Pounder heading back to broadcast!
Pounder’s guest appearance in episode 12 of Chicago Med marks her first broadcast role since NCIS: New Orleans wrapped its seven-season back in 2021. This also reunites Pounder with Wolf Entertainment and will see Pounder joining a growing list of actors to play multiple characters within the shared Law & Order and One Chicago universe.
Law & Order: SVU fans might recognize Pounder for her role as Carolyn Maddox, a private-practice defense attorney who popped up in multiple episodes between 2001-2010.
