We still don’t know when Chicago Med will be signing off the air with its season finale, but what’s becoming increasingly clear is that the final episode of season 10 is going to be one fans won’t want to miss. While NBC has been keeping its cards close to the chest, Chicago Med showrunner Allen MacDonald has dropped some major teases about what’s to come in the final hour of the season, and it seems fans are in for more than a few surprises!
In speaking with TVLine, MacDonald revealed the season 10 finale will bring back a few “unexpected faces,” and we’re definitely curious to see exactly who these faces might be. We’ve already seen some really surprising returns this season, most notably with the return of Rachel DiPillo as Dr. Sarah Reese, marking her first appearance on the show since season 4. Could these returns simply be characters who have played smaller roles in the current season, or could we possibly see a few familiar faces from seasons past return? That’s the question on our mind and we honestly could see both being a possibility.
There are certainly a few names high up on the list of characters we’d love to see back chief among them being Dominic Rains’ Dr. Crockett Marcel, whose exit felt rushed and left us wanting more from the beloved character. While Crockett’s exit was teased in the penultimate episode of season 9, his absence has been felt this season and we wish we could get the chance to see him return to the fold.
It’d also be exciting to see some other faces we haven’t seen in some time now on the show such as Colin Donnell’s Dr. Connor Rhodes, Brian Tee’s Dr. Ethan Choi, and Yaya DaCosta’s Nurse April Saxon. These are all characters whose exits felt somewhat rushed and we'd more than welcome the returns of the trio, even if just for a guest spot -- though we wouldn't be opposed to anyone coming back in a larger role in season 11!
Chicago Med boss warns the season 10 finale will shock the fans
Not only is the Chicago Med season 10 finale about to bring back some familiar faces, but it seems the episode is going to leave fans with a lot to process over the summer break.
In teasing the finale, MacDonald revealed that “the final minutes of the hour will have some big shocks with lasting ripple effects,” warning fans that “it’s going to be a very long summer for Chicago Med fans!”
Could someone be leaving Med? Might there be a change coming to the leadership in the ED? Could we get a surprise hookup or relationship development? There is really no telling what the writers might have in store for the episode, but it seems we’re going to have a major cliffhanger coming our way as season 10 comes to a close.
Interestingly, it’s been teased that “Goodwin confronts her demons as she makes some deeply difficult decisions, both personal and professional.” Could we see Goodwin stepping down from her role, or might these difficult decisions come in having to let go of doctors at the hospital? Those decisions would definitely create ripples that would have lasting effects and open the door for many new stories to be told.
If there is one thing this season has taught us, it is that the writers are no longer afraid of making waves and we absolutely love the bold storytelling that has reinvigorated the long-running medical drama! The writers are taking chances and pushing characters in directions we never expected, which has made it fun to watch the season and given us a new excitement in watching the episodes!
