The Chicago Med casting team continues to outdo themselves this season! Hot off an episode that featured some incredible guest performers, the latest episode of season 11 has tapped one of the most legendary mother-daughter acting duos in the industry for the tenth episode of the season!
Chicago Med season 11, episode 10, “Frost on Fire,” welcomes Marla and Angela E. Gibbs to the One Chicago Universe. The pair will, fittingly, be playing a mother-daughter duo in the episode with Marla playing Ruth Williams and Angela playing Ruth’s daughter, Grace Evans.
Marla shared her excitement about getting to star opposite her daughter in the episode via a statement released on her official Facebook page.
“I’m honored to appear on Chicago Med in a powerful episode… And guess who plays my daughter? My real-life daughter, the incredibly talented [Angela E. Gibbs]. Working side-by-side with Angela on this emotional story meant so much to me — especially with my book coming out discussing the trauma my children were raised in, there are no coincidences!! God's plan is something honey!”
Marla is best known for her role in the iconic comedy The Jeffersons, playing Florence Johnston across the show’s 11-season run, a role that earned her five Primetime Emmy nominations. Following her run on The Jeffersons, Marla starred in five seasons of the comedy 227 and she’s never slowed down over the years. Her more recent credits include appearances on hits like The Upshaws, Will Trent, and Grey’s Anatomy.
Much like her mother, Angela has a made a career in television, appearing in a variety of hits. ABC fans will recognize her from her series regular role as Cricket in the comedy Not Dead Yet, while others will recognize her from roles in Hacks, On My Block, and Black Jesus.

WNBA star Courtney Vandersloot drops into Chicago Med
In addition to Marla and Angela Gibbs, Chicago Med season 11, episode 10, also features a guest appearance from 2-time WNBA champion guard Courtney Vandersloot.
Vandersloot has spent nearly her entire career playing with the Chicago Sky, having been drafted by the team in 2011. In 2023, Vandersloot signed a two-year deal with the New York Liberty, winning her second WNBA title in 2024 before returning to the Chicago Sky roster in 2025.
Now that Vandersloot is officially back in Chicago, it seems only fitting that the Chicago Med team has managed to bring her in for a guest spot playing herself. Fans will get to see Vandersloot drop in to brighten the day of a young college basketball player brought into the Gaffney ED where she’s treated by Dr. Archer and Dr. Frost.
It’s always fun when the One Chicago franchise finds a way to bring in star players from the various Chicago-based sports teams, and this marks the first WNBA cameo in the franchise.
