It seems Chicago Med is about to give Glee fans a reason to tune into NBC’s long-running medical drama this fall!

Glee star Dot-Marie Jones will be passing through Gaffney Chicago Medical Center this fall in season 12, having booked a guest role in the upcoming season of Chicago Med. Jones’ casting was announced by Chicago Med star Steven Weber, who took to Instagram to celebrate the opportunity to work alongside Jones in the episode.

“Met this legend today!” wrote Weber in the post, which was accompanied by a selfie with Jones from the set.

It’s unclear when Jones will appear, but it’s looking like we’ll see the Glee alum pop up in the third episode of Chicago Med’s upcoming season. It’s also unknown who Jones will be playing, but given the photo shared by Weber, it appears that Jones will be playing a patient who passes through Gaffney in need of medical assistance after an injury to her head.

Jones is best known to Gleeks for her performance as Coach Beiste on Glee, a role she originated in the show’s second season. Coach Beiste was a key recurring character throughout the show’s run, a role that would earn Jones three Emmy nominations across her run on the series. The highlight of Jones’ run on the show came in the final season when Coach Beiste came out as gay and underwent gender-affirming surgery, bringing visibility to an underserved community in telling an emotional transgender storyline.

"I had thousands of tweets from people. I was crying," Jones told CBS News of the responses she received to the story arc. "Members of the transgender community were saying, 'I never thought I'd see myself on TV. You have no idea what this means to me. Now, maybe people will get it.'"

The positive reception to the storyline was a testament to Jones’ incredible performance during the arc, which has us excited to see what she’ll bring to the Chicago Med guest spot. Jones is an incredible performer, and we have no doubt that she’s going to give an amazing performance in her guest role. We wouldn’t at all be surprised by that, as Chicago Med has a history of bringing in some amazing guest performers from the Glee cast.

Back in season 4, Lauren Potter, who played cheerleader Becky Jackson on Glee, dropped in for an incredible guest performance as a pregnant woman with Down syndrome who has a congenital heart defect and was faced with a difficult decision regarding her pregnancy. We then saw Jessalyn Gilsig, who played Terri Schuester on Glee, pop up in season 10 as Ainsley Towne, Frost’s former costar, who we’d later come to learn took advantage of him with an inappropriate relationship.

Needless to say, Glee alums have had quite a streak of memorable guest appearances and we're certain Jones' will soon join that list!

Chicago Med season 12 premieres Wednesday, October 7 at 8/7c on NBC.
