Chicago Med season 12 has finally arrived with new drama and stories fresh out of the Gaffney emergency department. After the season 11 finale brought a fair amount of changes for our main characters—between births, deaths, and major career setbacks—the new season drops them right back into the thick of things with a big new medical case to unpack.
We already know what the Chicago Med season 12 cast will look like and who's back and who's not, but as long-time fans know, each episode typically brings new guest stars. The season 12 premiere is no different. Before the season began, the storyline revolving around a mass shooting at a wedding was teased, and weddings feature a large number of families and guests.
The biggest guest star to appear in Chicago Med season 12 episode 1 is a familiar face from one of television's most famous zip codes. Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Gabrielle Carteris, who played Andrea Zuckerman in the iconic teen drama series, guest stars as Birdie Sutherland, the mother of the groom. But the season premiere boasts a couple of other guest stars you might recognize.

Beyond Carteris' guest starring role, the premiere also guest stars Scarlett Spears as the 8-year-old patient Dakota Cross, one of the wedding guests. The young star might be best known for appearing in Wicked: For Good as the young version of Ariana Grande's Galinda. Most recently, she lent her voice in Toy Story 5 as the movie's leading child character Bonnie.
Another guest star fans might recognize is Jimi Stanton, who plays the groom Dexter Sutherland. Stanton previously appeared in television series like Your Honor, The Punisher, The Rookie, FBI: Most Wanted, Blue Bloods, and more in various starring and guest roles. Baize Buzan plays Dexter's bride-to-be Tamar, and ironically, Buzan previously guest starred in Chicago Fire in two different roles.
Chicago Fire season 12's premiere also welcomes Michael Alix as Bruno, another guest character with a connection to the wedding storyline. The actor, pictured above, has been seen in such titles as Paper Tiger, The Pitt, Hacks, Daredevil: Born Again, Tires, FBI, and You, among others. The episode features other characters from the wedding storyline, but these are the biggest.
Aside from the premiere's case-of-the-week storyline, Chicago Med season 12 also brought back recurring star Devin Kawaoka as Dr. Kai Tanaka-Reed, who could be back for additional episodes after the premiere. New characters were also introduced in this episode, including Dr. Annie Wu (An-Li Bogan), a doctor stepping in since the ED is down two doctors with Asher and Lenox away.
Last but not least, Rebecca Breeds plays Mallory Sloan, the hospital's new administrator who has been brought into Goodwin's role at the hospital. Sloan was seen in the season 12 trailer sitting behind Goodwin's desk, teasing that she's going to stir up some tension for the doctors before Goodwin eventually, and inevitably, returns to her position at some point.
Watch Chicago Med on Wednesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next-day on Peacock.
