At the end of Chicago Med season 10, fans of the series were surprised when they saw Dr. Hannah Asher learn that she was pregnant. By the time the season ended, everyone wanted to know who the father of Hannah's baby was. As a result, there was a lot of interest when the show's boss hinted that fans might be upset by the father's reveal.

While viewers have been dying to know who the identity of the father is, there is something that some of the show's fans may not have considered. During a recent interview, Chicago Med's boss pointed out that viewers shouldn't make assumptions about how the storyline will play out during the show's upcoming season. During an interview, the series' showrunner also pointed out that Hannah may not actually give birth.

Chicago Med's showrunner hints Hannah Asher may not have a baby

Before Chicago Med season 11 begins airing, fans of the hit One Chicago show have a lot of reasons to be very excited about what is to come. For example, after the previous chapter of the series featured several fantastic returns, season 11 is set to bring back more departed characters. Viewers will also get to see the Dr. Hannah Asher season 10 cliffhanger ending will pay off.

In September 2025, TVLine published a preview of the upcoming fall television season. As a part of that article, the outlet spoke to Chicago Med's fantastic showrunner, Allen MacDonald, about the season 10 baby cliffhanger. The first thing that the article revealed about that storyline was that viewers will definitely learn who the father is.

“[Fans] will find out who the father is one way or the other," MacDonald promised.

After that extremely welcome revelation, Chicago Med's boss explained how much the show's upcoming season will be affected by Hannah's pregnancy. Instead of the storyline often taking a backseat throughout the season, Allen stated that the pregnancy, and the emotional impact of it, will be a consistent part of the show's storylines.

“It is a storyline we’re gonna track through most of the season."

After making those statements, Allen hinted that viewers shouldn't make any assumptions about what will happen with the pregnancy storyline. As the Chicago Med boss was discussing the much-discussed storyline, he pointed out that he never definitively stated that Hannah would wind up actually having a baby.

""Sometimes pregnancy news changes… You’ll notice I didn’t say they’re going to have the baby.”"

Based on what Chicago Med's showrunner has said about Hannah's pregnancy storyline, it seems very clear that many possibilities remain on the table. With that in mind, it is very hard to predict how the storyline will affect viewers. That said, based on how expertly Allen handled Chicago Med season 10, I have faith that the show will depict whatever happens next in the storyline tastefully.

Chicago Med season 11 premieres Wednesday, October 1 at 8/7c on NBC.
