The couple are going to have a happy ending, after all.

Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) have been through so much together. Both good and bad. They have experienced mortal wounds, psychological fallout, and in an especially harrowing instance, the kidnapping of their step daughter.

The road ahead is not going to get much easier. Chicago PD showrunner Gwen Sigan confirmed that the couple are going to hit a few more speed bumps in season 12. The good news, though, is that all the drama and difficulty will not be in vain. Burgess and Ruzek, or Burzek, is going to make it.

Gwen Sigan said season 12 will end in marriage

Sigan confirmed this during a recent interview with Screen Rant. The showrunner not only confirmed that the couple will have a wedding, but they will do it before the end of the season! "Yes, there will be happiness, I promise," Sigan explained. "There will be happiness. They are going to make it down the aisle this season."

The showrunner expanded on this revelation by noting that the issues and conflicts won't stop once they do get married, but rather, they take on a different dimension. Burgess and Ruzek will have brand new things to deal with once they're married.

"This is their relationship, this is their bedrock, but also life keeps coming at you and, now, how do you deal with it as a couple?," Sigan rhetorically asked the outlet. "And seeing them grow together in all of these transitions and changes that they both have in their individual lives."

Burzek will still have relationship conflicts

Additional revelations came about. Sigan circled back on the fact that Burgess is a detective now, and has more responsibility than ever at work. She's also indebted to Chief Deputy Reid (Shawn Hatosy), who is a figure the IU is going to have to confront sooner or later.

Ruzek's season 12 arc was less known heading into the interview, but Gwen Sigan revealed that he will be part of one of the second half's biggest storylines. "Then we have Ruzek having a pretty big storyline in the second half of the season," she explained. "And both of them being there to support each other. [We see] how that affects your day-to-day and how your relationship has to morph in just a really normal, grounded way is what we were hoping for."

It's not going to be idyllic. Things rarely are on Chicago PD. It is nice, however, to know that Burzek will finally get married, and fans won't have to wait much longer to see it happen.
