From the moment Eva Imani joined the cast of Chicago PD, the core of her storyline was very clear. This character’s entire behavior, beliefs, and patterns all circled around her sister’s disappearance. Everything Imani has done in her life, including becoming a cop, has been dictated by this traumatic event from her childhood.
Even though at first she kept this close to her chest, and only the viewers knew the secret she was keeping, she soon had to reveal the truth to Voight. He became the first ally she ever had on this never-ending search. However, it looks like the upcoming episode will have the entire Intelligence Unit join the search for her sister.
Imani moved to Chicago cause she received word that her sister might be in town. Since then, she has spent every free minute of her life looking into missing women and those who have been arrested for prostitution. Her search is so deep and wide that she has connections at various missing persons organizations, and Voight has received a phone call to make sure Vice is okay with giving Imani information.
Every character that we meet has a purpose and a motivation, but it isn’t always clear from the beginning. In Imani’s case, the beating heart of her character lies in her search for her sister. That is what has dictated her entire storyline throughout Chicago PD season 13.
From what we have seen for the upcoming episode, Imani receives information that might lead to finding her sister. But this time, she doesn’t face this journey on her own. The beauty of being part of this unit is that you will always have someone in your corner, willing to do whatever it takes to help you. And it does help that everyone here has the experience Imani needs to find her sister.
However, as excited as we are to see the next two episodes that bring the end of season 13, we can’t help but wonder what will become of Imani when/if she finds her sister. If, hypothetically, the season finale gives us a reunion, does that change who Imani is? Does it completely erase her purpose? Will it make her wonder what it is all for?
Viewers probably wonder what could become of a character who so clearly had one goal in life. If that goal is met, is there more here for Imani? We sure hope so, but Chicago PD has a tendency to get rid of some of its characters not too long after they’ve joined.
Extending the search for her sister would feel like torture, but giving resolution to this storyline shouldn’t mean the end of this character. There is so much that could be explored, including Imani figuring out what kind of cop she is now that her sister is found. There are endless possibilities for how this storyline ends, and we hope that it won’t be with Imani’s departure from the show with such a short-lived experience.
