Chicago PD just landed the highest rated One Chicago episode of 2024
Chicago PD is the second longest-running show in the One Chicago franchise. It has been on the air for 12 seasons, and withstood several cast exits and behind the scenes controversies. Fans seem to agree that the show has not lost its step despite this lengthy stint, and a recent mid-season finale that was lacking a cliffhanger.
How has PD done it? Well, with quality storytelling and some unexpected turns. All three One Chicago shows will return in 2025, meaning every episode that will air during this calendar year has come out and been rated by users on IMDb. Impressively, PD has snagged the top spot when it comes to the ratings for a single episode.
"Blood Bleeds Blue" has become a fan favorite episode
The episode in question is "Blood Bleeds Blue." The third episode of season 12 sees the IU embark on a manhunt through the Windy City with a new detective, Emily Martel (Victoria Cartegena), in tow. The officer seemed like a natural choice to replace Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), and the episode does sell the idea, allowing Martel time to click with the various team members.
Martel was particularly close with Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) and the show did an excellent job of establishing their rapport and making it seem believable in a short amount of time. Sadly, the newcomer was struck down in the line of duty. "Blood Bleeds Blue" is a compelling episode without the last few minutes, but it's the final scene that elevates to greatness.
The episode has a 9.1 rating on IMDb
After the team solve the case, Ruzek and Martel are driving back to the police station. They pull off when they catch wind of a dangerous situation, but before either of them can spring into action, the newcomer gets popped. Martel dies in her very first episode, and Ruzek is left, shocked by what has happened in the middle of a firefight.
Chicago PD hasn't killed an officer so close to the IU in years, and the way in which the episode built up Martel's introduction and her investigative skills was masterful. It makes her death devastating, not only because of how much she meant to Ruzek, but because of how much we were beginning to like her as well.
"Blood Bleeds Blue" currently has a 9.1 rating on IMDb, which makes it the only episode in the entire 2024 run of One Chicago shows to cross the 9 mark. We understand why.
