Chicago PD has one couple going strong at the moment: Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger). These two are engaged after years of being on and off. They appear as though they are ready to take their next step as a couple. That said, there are a few more bumps they must encounter before they get to the altar.
The promo for season 10 episode 10, "Zoe," looks to be one of these bumps. The brief clip, which played after the midseason premiere, hints at a mysterious figure paying a visit to Burgess and Ruzek and effectively doing damage to their relationship. The official synopsis confirms this reading.
Ruzek's dad Bob is predicted to return
"An unexpected visitor causes disruption for Ruzek and Burgess," the synopsis reads. "Amidst an emotional investigation involving an unidentified young girl." Fortunately, for fans, there has already been rumors brewing that Ruzek's dad, Bob, is the figure in question. Bob (Jack Coleman) hasn't been on an episode of Chicago PD since 8.
Those familiar with the former police officer, however, know that he is bad news. The elder Ruzek had a reputation for being crooked during his time with the force. Bob and Adam regularly butt heads, and the notion of him re-entering his son's life so close to his wedding is guaranteed to create drama.
This is something Marina Squerciati hinted to as far back as November 2024. The actress told The Hollywood Reporter that Burzek was in for some trials and tribulations in season 12, and Bob Ruzek was going to be one of the chief instigators.
Bob Ruzek will cause relationship issues for Burzek
"We’re doing a big Patty two-parter episode and we have Disco Bob, his dad, sort of putting a wedge into our relationship," Squerciati explained. "It is kind of something that every couple deals with, with in-laws." The actress didn't delve too far into why or how Bob Ruzek causes problems, but she did say that it was ultimately important for Burzek as a couple to get through.
"It’s really interesting and I don’t think I can say exactly what’s going on," Squerciati concluded. "But it’s going to test us. I like it, because it’s very much something that everyone is going to go through." Ruzek has already had to contend with the loss of a co-worker, Emily Martel (Victoria Cartagena), in season 12, so we hope the poor guy catches a break soon.
"Zoe" airs Wednesday, January 15 on NBC.
