Chicago PD finally put a spotlight on a brand-new agent during its latest episode, and it's clear he's unlike anyone Voight has faced before.

Kyle Selig took his first proper bow as FBI Agent Charlie Boyden during Chicago PD season 14, episode 3, and he definitely managed to ruffle some feathers with his style. He’s arrived due to restructuring in the 21st district, and to say that he’s a walking headache already to Hank Voight is putting it lightly.

Boyden is from the FBI, and he’s there to determine if Voight’s team is using the money allocated to the team correctly. To say that he’s resented—especially in the wake of Kevin Atwater’s leaving the team to establish a new life in Atlanta—is putting it mildly.

But Boyden isn’t like any kind of detective that Voight’s ever dealt with before. He is, in a word, quirky—the kind of guy who’d be at home in any CBS procedural. He’s clumsy but professional—hard to draw a bead on. He’s sweet at heart, and it’s pretty clear that Voight—who is armed for bear regarding anyone even trying to disband his team—brushing up against someone who means well is a new experience.

Whether or not Charlie will be a friend to the team or a foe will be determined sometime in the future—for the moment he’s simply poised to be a major irritant and a burr under the saddle of Voight. While that’s all we know about the character three episodes into the new season, the actor who plays him has a wide-ranging and fascinating career.

Selig has been in multiple Broadway productions, including Mean Girls the Musical as Aaron Samuels and Water for Elephants as Jakob Jankowski, and played multiple roles in The Book of Mormon. His film and television career has been briefer but still interesting. He had guest starring roles on Madame Secretary, Evil, Girls5Eva, FBI: International, and Mulligan. His only regular role before Boyden was in Welcome to Flatch, where he played Dylan during seasons 1 and 2.

Filmwise, he’s appeared in productions as varied as Cat Person, Christmas in Tahoe, and Housewives of the North Pole, but is probably best known for playing Mr. Komos in Monster High: The Movie. His wide-ranging experience in comedy, drama, action, and horror definitely seems to have set him up for a solid future working the beat as Boyden on Chicago PD. The only question is, will Voight allow Boyden to keep on working the FBI’s beat in his hallowed precinct or force him out in bloody fashion?
