It’s a good day to be an Atwater fan! While we’re still processing the news that LaRoyce Hawkins will be exiting Chicago PD at the beginning of season 14, the newest promo release to mark the return of the One Chicago shows is giving Atwater fans plenty of reasons to celebrate!
Let’s start with the first part of this good news! After cast listings surfaced that suggested we would not get to see Karen Obilom back as Tasha Fox in season 14, this new promo confirms Obilom will appear in at least one episode of season 14. This is an absolute relief as we weren’t happy about the idea that we’d possibly seen the last of Tasha and that the show was potentially not going to include her in Atwater’s final episodes.
Somehow, Obilom’s return isn’t the biggest reveal to come from this new promo, though. That’s right, there is another even more exciting update this promo provides Atwater fans.
Not only does the promo for the new season confirm that Tasha will be back, but the new spot for Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Chicago Med includes a brief clip that confirms that Atwater and Tasha’s baby will arrive before Hawkins exits the show!

Following a steamy shot of Severide and Kidd, we get a glimpse of Tasha and Atwater together at home and can clearly see Tasha holding an infant in her arms as Atwater pulls her in and kisses her sweetly on the head. “I want us to build something together,” he tells her before the promo closes out with a Chicago Med tease. The moment between Atwater and Tasha is far too short and sweet for our liking, but that brief snippet honestly gives Atwater fans more than anything we’ve gotten in the pre-season promotional materials.
In that brief moment, NBC confirmed that we’re going to get to see Atwater become a father before his final episode, which is something we were truly worried might not happen. After all, Chicago PD’s showrunner seemed to indicate that we might not see the baby arrive before Atwater’s exit, and the idea of missing the chance to see him and Tasha as parents together was breaking our hearts.
We’re so happy that the show will give us the chance to see Atwater and Tasha enjoy a little slice of happiness with their baby before the show writes Atwater out of the series. Of course, this does create a question of how the show will write him out considering that he and Tasha are both in Chicago when the season opens and apparently fully committed to their relationship, as evidenced by the kiss in the promo.
Chicago PD fans are ready to riot if they harm a hair on Atwater’s head, and we’re hoping that the exit storyline for Atwater might simply come via the pair deciding to move, be it to Miami or another city, rather than something happening to Atwater on the job. That’s a thought we’ll push out of our head for the moment, as we’re going to just ride the high of knowing Atwater and Tasha’s baby will have arrived by the time the premiere rolls around and that we’re going to see the pair co-parenting!
