It seems tensions are about to rise between two unexpected characters on Chicago PD.
NBC has released the synopsis information for the Chicago PD season 13, episode 17, “Partners,” and with it comes the tease that Voight is about to find himself at odds with Imani. During the episode, the Intelligence Unit will be investigating a series of ATM robberies in the city and it appears Voight and Imani won’t be seeing eye to eye in the case with tensions between the pair forming as they work the case.
No further details are provided, and the promo for the episode failed to give us any context as to why the pair will find themselves at odds. It’s going to be interesting to see how these tensions between Voight and Imani form because the pair have tended to see eye to eye about most things since she joined the unit. In fact, it was because of how well they worked together upon first meeting that Voight offered her a position on the Intelligence Unit.
Could it be that perhaps Voight sees a little too much of himself in Imani while working the case, and these tensions rise as he tries to pull her back from crossing a line he so often has crossed in the past? That certainly seems like a plausible scenario, especially with how Voight struggled with the role he played in the One Chicago crossover case.
Fans will remember that the individual behind the chemical attack that took place in the crossover was the victim of an apartment fire that claimed the lives of his entire family and left the man severely burned. The man blamed Voight for the fire, as he had asked the CFD to postpone a fire safety check so that he could sit on a meth lab operation in hopes of catching the key players involved.
That decision resulted in the fire and Voight struggled with his actions upon learning the role he played in pushing the man over the edge. While there was nothing illegal done, it was clear Voight questioned his actions and felt guilt for the role he played.
Knowing the growth Voight has had, it would make sense for the tension between him and Imani to be connected to him hoping to prevent her from making some of the mistakes he made in the past by cutting corners to get results. We know that Imani is a lot like Voight, so we could really see that leading to the tension between the pair in the episode and for Voight to try to discourage her crossing a line to get to the bottom of the case.
Of course this is just one theory, and there are many circumstances that could lead to tension between Voight and Imani. We’ll find out the root of their issues when Chicago PD season 13, episode 17, airs on April 8, but we're definitely eager to see what causes Voight and Imani to butt heads and how they’ll work through those tensions!
