The One Chicago shows are nearing the end of production on their current seasons, and it seems we’re just days away from production wrapping on the current season of Chicago PD season 13.
While an exact wrap date for the season is unclear, star Marina Squerciati indicated that filming on the season will be wrapping sometime before the end of March or early in April.
“I have 4 days left of filming this season and I’m tired… you do the work and caption this, pretty please,” Squerciati wrote on Instagram in a post shared on March 24. The post was accompanied by a photo of her Chicago PD co-stars Jason Beghe and Patrick John Flueger on set posing in front of what appears to be an industrial ventilation pipe or exhaust vent.
Depending on whether the show will film over the weekend, this means that Squerciati will wrap filming on either March 28 or March 30. It’s likely that this could be when many of her costars will wrap on the season as well, but there is a chance that others in the cast will continue filming after Squerciati. It’s not uncommon for actors to wrap filming on different days, so there is a chance that other members of the cast may have a few more days left on season 13 than Squerciati.
Regardless, it’s clear that we’re in the home stretch of the season, and production will soon be wrapping on Chicago PD. This means Chicago Fire and Chicago Med are also likely closing in on their final days of filming as well given that the One Chicago shows typically begin and end production around the same time.
With the One Chicago shows nearing the end of production on their current seasons, we'll naturally begin looking ahead to the final episodes of the season and also to the shows' futures.
Interestingly, NBC has not yet renewed Chicago PD, Chicago Fire, or Chicago Med, but all three shows are expected to be renewed for the next season. While CBS and Fox tend to hand out renewals early in the season, NBC has developed a tendency to wait until early May to make renewal decisions.
Given that all three of the One Chicago shows remain strong performers for NBC, there are no indications that the series are in any danger. That's not to say the renewals won't come with some strings attached.
There is a good chance that cost-cutting measures could lead to further behind-the-scenes changes, including cast departures and reductions to the number of episodes series regulars appear in. This means there is a very real possibility that some members of the cast could be filming their final scenes and not even realize this.
Recent seasons have brought about several shocking cast exits, but Chicago PD has managed to keep the majority of its core ensemble together. This makes us worried that the show could undergo a cast change or two, leading to one of the show's longtime cast members stepping away from the show after season 13. Hopefully, that won't be the case, but we'll certainly be keeping an eye out for updates in the weeks ahead and wouldn't be surprised if NBC announces a few casting changes timed to the renewals of the shows and their season finales.
