When one door closes, another one opens. Or in the case of Chicago PD, when one officer’s watch ends, another’s begins. Chicago PD has added a star from one of Netflix's biggest shows, tapping a key star of The Night Agent for a major role in season 13!
As first reported by Deadline, Chicago PD has welcomed Arienne Mandi to the cast of season 13 in what is being described as a series regular role.
While Mandi’s character information could change, she is currently attached to play Chicago P.D. officer Naomi Kerr. Officer Kerr is a former soldier and military contractor who has a knack for thriving in dangerous situations, something we’re sure is going to help her thrive on the Intelligence Unit, which is known for being thrust into dangerous situations.
Interestingly, she’s also described as being a “fearless outsider,” known for keeping things close to her vest. This is something that definitely comes in hand for the Intelligence Unit when it comes to their undercover operations and keeping the many secrets they end up keeping while coloring outside the lines, but it could also create some interesting dynamics should she choose to keep Voight out of the loop while working cases.
Mandi is coming off a series regular role in the second season of Netflix’s hit political drama The Night Agent. Mandi joined the cast in season 2 playing Noor Taheri, a low-level aide working in the Iranian mission to the UN who becomes thrust into a world full of high-stakes espionage and global threats. While her character managed to survive the season, it was hinted she might not be back for season 3 after she helped save New York City from the KX attack.
Her addition to the Chicago PD cast comes on the heels of the show bidding farewell to Taya Turner after one season playing officer Kiana Cook on the show. Turner’s exit is expected to occur off-screen, with Mandi’s character likely being introduced in the season 13 premiere this fall. Let's just hope that Mandi bucks Chicago PD's recent trend of introducing new characters, only for them to leave the show after just one season.
With Chicago PD set to begin filming soon, we should begin to get additional updates about the series and its One Chicago sister shows! It's expected that the rest of the core cast will be back for season 13, including Jason Beghe, Marina Squerciati, LaRoyce Hawkins, Patrick Flueger, and Benjamin Levy Aguilar.
Chicago PD returns this fall on NBC.
