As Chicago PD season 13, episode 17 opens, Voight is heading into work, and he gets a call from Sergeant Wilcox with Vice asking him if he has a new partner, as an Intelligence officer has been sniffing around Vice looking for working girls. She’s been asking for case files and won’t give him an RD, as Voight assures him she’s just working a cold case and won’t be a problem. As he’s driving, he notices a suspicious truck outside an ATM, parks his car, and heads out to look into things. He notices a pair of men racing out as one orders the other to get in the truck and drive.Â
The offenders flee with the ATM dragging behind them, which then hits a young mother crossing the street, and the impact kills her on the scene. Using the tracker in the ATM, Voight heads out to the location where the tracker is pinging and hears an explosion as he approaches the door. Inside, he finds Rabbitt, his former CI, in the house with the busted ATM and an injured hand.Â
Voight takes Rabbit to Med as the rest of the team begin looking into the robberies, finding that this was the latest in a string of ATM robberies. Voight heads back to Med to press Rabbit for information about the men he’s working with and informs him about the woman who was killed. He makes it clear that Rabbit does not have a choice; he’s going to help Voight find the men behind the robberies as an informant.Â
At the precinct, Rabbit walks Voight through the robberies and gives him the name of the man in charge, a man named Deion. Rabbit is unable to give him any hard evidence, and Voight has no choice but to put him in the field to work Deion to gather the information needed. They wire him up, and he does the planned drop, but before Deion takes the cash, allowing Intelligence to move in, he orders Rabbit to come with him.Â
The pair head to a dispensary, where Intelligence listens in on the conversation via the wire as Deion drops the name "Bruiser," who seems to be the second offender. Deion mentions how Brusier texted him saying he wants out, which was weird, but the wire begins to cut out as the conversation continues. Audio then drops as Voight sends Imani in to check things out. When Rabbit sees Imani enter, Deion collapses and creates a diversion as Rabbit informs Imani Deion is casing the ATM.Â
After the events that went down at the dispensary, Imani pulls Voight aside and notes that something seems off with Rabbit. She worries that Rabbit might be playing them as he was inside the house longer than he needed to be and actually knows who Bruiser is. Voight questions why Rabbit would lie, and she suggests that Voight seems to have a soft spot for him. She asks if she should go press him for information, but Voight tells her he’ll do it instead.Â
Voight goes to give Rabbit a newly secured wire and questions his sobriety. Rabbit assures him he is. Voight questions who helped him, but Rabbit avoids the question and says he has nothing to tell him.Â
We cut to Imani, Ruzek, Burgess, and Voight out in the field. They’re still waiting for Rabbit’s guy to show up as a truck rolls up. We see a young man get out of the truck, and it’s clear Rabbit recognizes him as he quickly takes off the jacket with the wire and sends the man away with a warning that the police are watching.Â
Imani gives chase in her vehicle and corners Rabbit, as Voight follows after the truck along with Burgess and Ruzek. Voight loses eyes on the truck as Burgess and Ruzek continue to pursue the truck, but they lose it as well.
After sending Burgess and Ruzek away to try to track down the truck, Voight places Rabbit in his car as Imani settles into the front seat. Voight presses him for information about who Brusier is, and he reveals that Brusier is a man named Bryant Evans, Deion's second cousin. Rabbit claims that Deion forces Brusier into things, and Brusier goes along with it as he feels like he owes Deion.
Voight presses Rabbit about what his connection is to Brusier, and Rabbit admits he’s his boyfriend. Voight asks where he would go, and Rabbit says he’d go to Deion's. Rabbit reveals it was Bruiser who got him sober, and they keep one another straight. He assures him he’ll give him anything Voight needs, but he needs to give Brusier a deal or for Voight to give Brusier his deal. Voight questions why he should offer this deal, as Rabbit notes because he knows he’s not unfeeling; he pretends to be, but he’s not.Â
Voight agrees to help as he tells him they’re going to Deion's and tells Rabbit to do exactly as he says.Â
Rabbit goes to see Brusier and Brusier admits he hasn’t told Deion anything as Rabbit reveals he was trying to find them a way out of this. In the car, Voight tells Imani he doesn’t need protecting as he then asks what she's doing with Vice's case. The conversation is cut short as they notice Deion is in the apartment and he has a gun.
Deion asks why Rabbit called off the ATM robbery last night, and it becomes clear tensions are rising. Voight and Imani head into the apartment and approach the door where they hear shouting from within. They break into the room, and Rabbit knocks Deion’s gun away as Voight cuffs Bruiser and Imani cuffs Deion. Rabbit presses Voight over why he’s cuffing Deion and begins calling Voight out for lying to him. Imani is able to knock the gun away as she hauls Rabbit away as he lashes out at Voight for being a liar as she pulls him away.
As the episode comes to an end, Voight is looking at his badge in his office alone. Imani enters and informs him Rabbit has been transferred. Bruiser and Deion have lawyered up. As she prepares to leave, Voight invites her in for a nightcap. He thanks her for booking Rabbit as he questions whether she has a lead on her sister.
Imani reveals a man contacted the tipline and said he couldn’t go on record because he didn’t want his name tarnished, but that he had met her sister in Chicago. The man alleged that she was working a corner and told him she didn’t remember where she came from but thought her name was Shari. She matched the description of Shari and he was convinced it was her. While Imani admits it’s not a lot, she’s digging anyway. Voight offers his help, and she gives him a subtle, yes nod to accept his help.
