Could some familiar faces be making their way back to the Windy City? While nothing might be in the works at the moment, it seems Chicago PD’s showrunner is optimistic about the possibilities of bringing back some beloved alums on-screen should the timing work out.
During a recent interview with Give Me My Remote, showrunner Gwen Sigan was asked about the possibility of bringing back some familiar faces and confirmed she is “always open” to the idea.
“I love when we do it. I think it’s so fun. It was so fun last season to see Jesse [Lee Soffer] and Tracy [Spiridakos] again on screen [for the One Chicago crossover]. Like, obviously, Jesse comes back all the time. We’ve seen Trace a little bit. But to see them on-screen is really fun. So I’m always open. I think it would be wonderful to have somebody reappear again.”
Soffer and Spiridakos’ returns in the One Chicago crossover were indeed a highlight of the annual crossover event and gave fans a great opportunity to see the characters back together. They not only played pivotal roles in the crossover, but it also gave fans some closure they hadn’t gotten when the pair respectively left the series. It was an amazing moment that left us wanting more, and we’d love to see Halstead and Upton drop in on the Intelligence Unit again, though there are other amazing characters we’d love to see return as well.
At the top of the list of characters we’d love to see return is Jon Seda, whose Antonio Dawson was a core part of the show’s foundation. It’s been far too long since we’ve seen him, and we’d love to get an update on what Antonio has been up to since he walked away from the job. It would also be fun to see some of the show’s many other great characters drop back in, such as Brian Geraghty’s Sean Roman, Toya Turner’s Kiana Cook, and Lisseth Chavez’s Vanessa Rojas.
While we’ll have to wait to see if Sigan follows through with bringing back any familiar faces, one thing we know for sure is that we’ll soon be seeing some new faces entering the mix.
“I can say we definitely have some new faces joining us. We’ve got new characters coming into the 21st, and sort of completely bringing in new dynamics for everybody…it’s fun, it’s exciting, we’ve got a lot of new things we’re exploring.”
It’ll be interesting to see who these new faces might end up being, but with a spot open on the Intelligence Unit following Atwater’s departure, it seems likely that we could see a rotation of new officers dropping in to work cases alongside the Intelligence Unit. Who knows? One of those officers could even become Intelligence’s newest addition, as we know the show is working to bring in a replacement for Atwater down the line.
Some new blood could be fun, and it would be nice to see things shaken up a bit in the Intelligence bullpen!
Chicago PD airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC.
