The One Chicago crossover is fun on multiple levels. It not only gives the fans a chance to watch a story play out over multiple episodes and hours, but it gives the writers a chance to combine various characters who don't usually get a chance to interact.
There are One Chicago characters who have never gotten the chance to cross paths, by virtue of scheduling or bad timing or simply an inability to work their dynamic into a larger story. Well, Patrick John Flueger shed light on the upcoming crossover, and the Chicago PD star revealed that he will get a chance to work alongside Chicago Fire's Miranda Rae Mayo for the first time!
Patrick John Flueger is eager to work with Miranda Rae Mayo
Flueger, who plays Adam Ruzek on PD, made it clear that Mayo is no stranger. He told TV Insider that he has been friends with the actress for years, but has never gotten the chance to play out a scene with her. "Miranda and I have been quite close for a long time," the actor stated. "We travel together, we’re pals outside of everything."
The One Chicago crossover is going to change that. And Flueger is thrilled. "Getting to finally actually act with her," he explained. "Which I’ve never done before, and if we have, it’s been with a lot of people around, so to do a little one-on-one with her was really fun."
Ruzek and Mayo's character, Stella Kidd, are part of two of the longest-running romances in the One Chicago franchise. They have seen and been through a lot, and fans are familiar with them. Part of the fun of joining forces, though, was bringing out different aspects of each other's personalities.
Their characters have never had scenes together
"We had a good time, really supportive of each other," Flueger asserted. "And I think we found things that weren’t necessarily on the page and we had a really good team that we worked with as far as the day players and even the background folks that we were working with were incredible."
Flueger made sure to keep the other details about the One Chicago crossover under wraps. Ruzek and Kidd may be working together, but we are going to have to wait to find out what their scenes will entail, and what the dangers they are up against will be.
"I will say that I think out of all the crossovers, this one maybe doesn’t have as much smash bangs and booms, but it’s incredibly grounded and character driven," Flueger noted. We cannot wait to see what happens, and how Ruzek and Kidd navigate it all come January 29.
