There was a lot to love about the latest seasons of NBC’s One Chicago shows, but there is no denying that one of the greatest moments of the entire season came during the annual crossover event. Always a highlight for the franchise, the One Chicago crossovers never fail to deliver some of the best episodes of the season by bringing the casts of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD together for an epic three-episode event.
The 2026 One Chicago crossover was one of the franchise’s most ambitious crossovers ever, centering around a chemical attack that began with a missing passenger plane. What made the crossover even more special was that it marked the returns of Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos to the One Chicago franchise as Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton.
Soffer and Spiridakos had not shared the screen together since Soffer’s exit at the top of the show’s tenth season, and the show was not kind to the pair’s characters once he exited. Following Halstead’s decision to leave Chicago, his marriage to Upton quickly unraveled, leading to an off-screen divorce for the beloved couple. While some One Chicago characters were sent off with happy endings and reunions (think April and Ethan, Natalie and Will, and Casey and Brett), Halstead and Upton were not as fortunate, as Soffer did not return for Spiridakos’ sendoff in the season 11 finale.
Fans had all but given up hope that the pair might reunite (be it on-screen or off), and then came the crossover, which brought the pair together with Halstead’s undercover work sharing a central connection to the case that Upton was working on as a newly minted member of the FBI. After stopping the man behind the attacks, Halstead had the chance to apologize to Upton, and she extended an olive branch in the form of an invitation to get a drink before their flights. It was a simple moment, but one that gave fans hope that the pair might get a second chance. It also left the door open for the pair to return, and it seems Spiridakos is more than open to the idea of coming back to the show!

Tracy Spiridakos would love to come back to Chicago PD
After the One Chicago crossover managed to bring Halstead and Upton back to the fold, fans have been holding out hope that we could see the pair pop up again down the line, be it in another crossover event or for an episode or two of Chicago PD. The door was left open, and it seems that Tracy Spiridakos is more than happy to walk through it and come back to play with her former One Chicago co-stars.
“I thought it was a great ending, and who knows, right? Jesse and I are both like, ‘We’ll come play.’ We had so much fun, so we would totally go back — I should speak for myself. I don’t know about Jesse, but I know for me, I would love to come play,” Spiridakos told Swoon while promoting her upcoming USA Network drama Anna Pigeon.
Much like the fans, Spiridakos loved how they ended the crossover with Upton and Halstead heading out to have a conversation rather than thrusting the pair immediately back together. This gave hope and left the door open, without simply erasing what the pair had been through and the pain Halstead caused her when he left.
“I love that it was just we know that they’re going to have a conversation, and I love that people have had their own … Everyone’s like, ‘Yeah, it wasn’t just a conversation, like they totally made up,'” she said. “But I don’t think so. I don’t think that Hailey was just like, ‘Don’t worry about it. I know you completely abandoned me for two years. It’s all good.’ I think that they, in my opinion, went and they talked, and I think it opened the door to further conversations.”
Hopefully, that conversation is one we’ll get an update on sometime in Chicago PD season 14. We’d love to know how things are going for the pair and where that conversation led them. Did it lead them to decide to start fresh and begin seeing one another again, or did the conversation give them clarity that perhaps what’s best for them is to just be friends? We certainly are rooting for the former of those options, but what we really want is to see Spiridakos and Soffer back.
