Chicago PD's track record with Voight has us worried about this character's fate

There's a target on the back of this character based on past tragedies.

Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) is a great character. He's the grizzled heart of Chicago PD, and we're not sure the show would survive without him. That said, Voight has a bit of a King Midas in reverse thing going on. Due to his dangerous profession, the character often loses those close to him under tragic and violent circumstances. And we're worried history could repeat itself in season 12.

We aren't worried about the IU team, as each member can handle themselves and have proven to be more than capable of bouncing back from criminal attacks. We're worried about ADA Nina Chapman (Sara Bues), who has grown increasinglt closer to Voight throughout the season. While Chapman is a rare presence in Voight's life, a potential romantic partner, she is also working next to him on a very dangerous case. She could not be more in the line of fire if she tried.

Hank Voight's loved ones often meet a tragic end

It doesn't help that Voight and Chapman are currently, covertly, working together to take down the crooked Chief Deputy Charlie Reid (Shawn Hotosy), who has blackmailed the IU into doing his illegal bidding on the streets. The situation is very precarious at the moment, and based on everything that has been said about the finale, it's only going to get worse. We really hope Chapman doesn't get killed off.

Voight lost his wife, Camille, before Chicago PD even started. He lost his son, Justin (Josh Segarra), and his best friend, Alvin Olinksy (Elias Koteas). He lost Anna Avalos (Carmela Zumbado), the CI with whom he developed a father-daughter bond in season 9. His closest coworkers beside Olinsky, Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), decided to leave Chicago because they couldn't deal with the pressure and the danger of being at Voight's side (among other issues).

Chapman is at risk as the season 12 finale approaches

Voight inadvertently poses a danger to those in life, and we think it would be foolish to write off the possibility of seeing Chapman get killed in the season 12 finale. Chief Deputy Reid is a formidable foe, and taking him down is going to cost something in an emotional or physical sense. All signs point to Chapman, who is an ally but not an official part of the IU, as the most sensible and dramatic choice.

Here's thing, though. We think there would actually be power in subverting this decade plus trend. If Voight is ever going to find happiness in his personal life, he's going to have to break this cycle, and we can't think of a better time and a better person to do it with than Chapman. We may be coming off as overly cautious, but it's something worth flagging as we approach the finale episode. Be warned.
