I’m afraid I have some bad news for the Chicago PD fans out there. We won’t be getting a new episode for the rest of 2025.
No, this is not a joke, although I do wish it was. The seventh episode of season 13 served as the show’s fall finale, marking the final new episode of Chicago PD airing this year. You might have picked up on this by the unresolved nature of the episode, which was by design to keep fans talking during the show’s fall break.
As the episode drew to a close, Imani raced to Ray’s house after getting a call from Julie which had her worried that Julie was in imminent danger. When she arrived at the house, she began searching for Julie. Imani made it to Julie’s room and found that the phone had been left on the floor. In the final moments, Imani heard a noise that sounded like a door closing, suggesting she wasn’t alone in the house as the episode cut to black and came to a close.
The moment left fans eager to know what would follow and thankfully, we just have to get through the remainder of 2025 before we find out!

When does Chicago PD return with new episodes?
Following the fall finale on November 12, NBC has sent Chicago PD on hiatus for the remainder of 2025. The show’s fall break will be seven weeks long and will officially come to an end on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, when season 13 resumes with its winter premiere!
The first episode of the new year promises to pick up right where the fall finale left off and explore what happened after the episode cut away. Given Imani just joined the show, we aren’t worried about something happening to her. We are curious to see who is in the house and how she’ll get out if it was Ray.
In addition to following up on the Imani cliffhanger, we’re also hoping the winter premiere will finally address the departure of Ruzek. John Patrick Flueger’s leave of absence has likely begun, and we’re unsure how long we’ll be without Ruzek in the season ahead, but we need the show to finally give us some answers about what he’s up to.
Even if it’s just a quick conversation to explain he had to leave town to be with his father or that he went undercover, the show needs to address the elephant in the room when season 13 resumes in the new year. We’re also hoping the season will begin using its ensemble a bit better, as some of the first episodes of the season have been very single-character focused, with the others taking back seats with small roles to play.
We love seeing the cast get their character-centric episodes, but we also love the chemistry of the ensemble and hope we’ll see more episodes in the rest of the season that balances the characters out equally in episodes.
