The latest episode of Doctor Odyssey brought about a fun mini-crossover with 911 as Angela Bassett’s Athena Grant found herself hitting the high seas once again.
As the eleventh episode of 911 came to a close, Athena responded to a call from the FBI that led her to the port where The Odyssey was docked. Early in episode 11 of Doctor Odyssey’s first season, we find Athena trapped in a closet on the boat with a maid. Needless to say, she’s not excited about being stuck on a boat again. So how did Athena end up trapped on the ship?
While being checked out in the medical bay by Max, Athena tells him how she got a call from the FBI about picking up a man attempting to board the ship with a fake passport who had an AI-powered safe-cracking device. After taking the man into custody, she found he had checked a bag that was already on board and went to get the bag on the ship. On the way, she heard the maid cry out as she had cut her hand on a broken lightbulb when the door shut behind her, locking them in.
Needless to say, Athena isn’t exactly thrilled to be stuck on the “floating death trap” and we see a glimpse of her experience on her last cruise which was the cruise from hell as 911 fans know all too well. Max assures her his crew will use the next few days to show her how great a cruise can be.

With no option but to stay aboard the ship, Athena is shown to the room of the man she arrested where Captain Massey has arranged for her to stay as he enlists her help providing some extra security during Casino Week. He’s also sent up some clothes for her which leads to a fun fashion show sequence as she tries on the various gowns while enjoying some fun with Avery and an elderly passenger named June who stumbled into the room looking for some fun.
After getting settled, Athena joins Max at a poker table and the two play a few fans before she goes to speak with Captain Massey, clearly in a panic. It turns out she’s gotten a call from the FBI and that the man she arrested has a pair of partners on the ship who are known only as Bonnie and Clyde.
Upon learning the news, Athena goes into detective mode and begins to look into suspicious passengers. It doesn’t take long for her to close in on a suspicious couple and enlists Max’s help in proving the pair are cheating. When the woman begins coughing, Max brings her to the medical bay for evaluation. While hooked up to the vital machine, Athena questions the woman using the machine as her own personal lie detector. The woman’s heart rate rises as Athena asks questions about what she was up to and Max tries to shut it down as she presses for a confession. When it looks like the woman is having a panic attack, Max realizes the diamonds she’s wearing are fake and have been replaced with fakes which have triggered an allergic reaction.
It’s then that Athena realizes the thieves aren’t after the money in the vault but rather the passenger’s jewelry.
Just as Athena and Max are filling Captain Massey in on the news, a fire alarm begins going off which triggers some PTSD for Athena which Max quickly picks up on as he coaxes her into helping him get passengers to safety. Max bumps into Tristan at the medical bay and he enlists Max’s help to open the medication room as his watch which grants him universal access on the ship has gone missing.
Elsewhere in the ship, Athena finds out there was no fire but rather someone set off a smoke bomb which was used as a distraction to lure passengers out of their cabins in order to steal their jewelry. While speaking with a member of the crew who found the smoke bomb, Athena notices glitter on the crew member’s hand and all comes together.
It turns out that Bonnie is actually the older woman Athena met early in the episode and Clyde is her grandson. Their plan was to use the AI-powered safe-cracking device to break into the passengers’ cabins, but when Athena showed up to arrest her suspect before the device could get onto the ship they had to come up with another plan. This led June to fake a medical emergency in order to steal Tristan’s watch, thus granting them access to all of the rooms on the ship.
We learn that all those seemingly harmless selfies and photos June had been taking all episode were to get photos of the passengers’ jewelry so that her grandson could use 3D printing to make knockoff copies.
Thankfully for passengers, LA’s top officer's unexpected voyage on The Odyssey helped to save the day with Athena bringing Bonnie and Clyde to justice with a little help from Max.
