Chicago Med tied two cliffhangers together during its season 10 fall finale. Dr. Sharon Goodwin (S Epatha Merkerson) was stabbed and bleeding out, and her only hope of being rescued was Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber) who came by her officer to tender his resignation.
The fall finale concluded without either storyline being resolved. Naturally, there was a lot to address in Chicago Med's season 10 winter premiere, "No Love Lost." The episode picked up right where the fall finale left off, and saw Dr. Archer rush to the aid of the injured Dr. Goodwin. The former managed to get his boss clear of danger, and get her the medical treatment she so desperately needed.

Naturally, this put a halt in his resignation plans. Gaffney Medical Center's resident grump may have bumped heads with newcomer Dr. Caitlin Lenox (Sarah Ramos), but he was never going to stand by and pack up his desk while Goodwin's life hung in the balance.
"No Love Lost" sees Dr. Archer take a central role in ensuring that his boss is getting the best treatment possible. He puts his own career interests on the backburner to ensure that Goodwin gets what she needs, which is something actor Steven Weber alluded to in an Us Weekly interview prior to the episode's release.
"[Archer can't] just sit down or sit on his hands," Weber told the outlet. "He’s gonna take action. If we know Archer, we know that he’s going to do his best [to save her]." The actor wasn't kidding. The Med episode wraps up with Archer deciding to stay on with Gaffney. He realizes the good he can do, and it trumps whatever headaches that Dr. Lenox may cause.
Dr. Archer will have maturing to do in season 10
Weber assured Us Weekly readers that his character will have plenty to do for the rest of Chicago Med season 10. Dr. Archer will reconsider the role he plays at the hospital, and whether it's time to make changes in his own life, as a means of self-improvement.
"[He needs to] shed a lot of the defensiveness that he had probably before his active duty," the actor revealed. "He's got to figure out what this jolt means to him as a person of a certain age, a certain time of life." We can' wait to see how Archer changes over the rest of the season, and how he navigates the still tense dynamic with Dr. Lenox.
