Dr. Charles' daughters must be a big part of Chicago Med season 11

Why Dr, Daniel Charles' daughters need to be a major part of his season 11 storyline after they both returned near the end of the previous season.

Since Chicago Med premiered in the year 2015, Maggie Lockwood, Sharon Goodwin, and Dr. Daniel Charles have been regarded as the heart and soul of the beloved show. As a result, many fans love Dr. Charles so much that they want to know things like how old the character is. There are many reasons for that, including the fact that the character has always come across as such a sincere and kind person.

Thanks to how popular Dr. Charles is as a character, there has always been a lot of fan interest in seeing the character find happiness. Despite that, tracking Dr. Charles' personal life has shown that the character has struggled to nurture positive relationships despite his best efforts. That is why Dr. Charles' daughters need to be a major part of Chicago Med season 11, following the events that took place near the end of the show's tenth season.

Why Dr. Charles' daughters need to return for season 11

Near the end of Chicago Med season 10, which I think is the best season ever, Dr. Daniel Charles went through an incredible amount of trauma. After his mother suddenly passed away in front of him, Dr. Charles' daughters returned. As happy as he was to get to be with his beloved daughters, Dr. Charles was taken aback when he learned that his youngest daughter, Anna Charles, dropped out of Stanford University.

After Dr. Charles and Anna disagreed over her leaving school, his daughter was hospitalized at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center following a serious car crash. Once Anna wakes up, Dr. Charles learns that his youngest daughter's car crash was a deliberate act of self-harm that was motivated by the severe clinical depression she was suffering. Furthermore, Dr. Charles learns from his daughter that even though he prides himself on helping people, his own daughters feel like he is impossible for them to talk to.

During the final moments of Chicago Med season 10, Dr. Charles appears to feel defeated and powerless to help the people he loves more than anything else in the world. In his moment of need, Dr. Charles turns to his former protégé, who'd made similar criticisms of him earlier during the season, Dr. Sarah Reese.

Based on how things left off for his character when season 10 ended, Dr. Charles should be poised to go through a period of growth and learning during the show's upcoming episodes. In my opinion, Dr. Charles' storyline growth wouldn't feel complete unless his daughters are a major part of season 11. However, my perception of his daughters' roles in season 11 may be different from what that statement implies.

While I would love to see a lot of Anna Charles and Robin Charles during season 11, the two characters don't necessarily need to appear onscreen a lot. After all, it may seem like one way that Dr. Charles could begin to grow is by allowing other medical professionals to take control of treating Anna and by letting Robin return to the life she has built for herself. On top of that, there is the practical problem that, as one of the stars of ABC's The Rookie, Robin's actor, Mekia Cox, almost certainly would be too busy to appear in a lot of Chicago Med episodes.

What I would argue, however, is that it will feel wrong if Anna and Robin don't appear onscreen at all during season 11. More importantly, I believe that Chicago Med won't be true to who Dr. Charles is as a character if he doesn't regularly reflect on how the growth he is undergoing is motivated by his love for his children. I don't want to see Dr. Charles constantly beating himself up. What I am hoping happens is that when Dr. Charles has breakthroughs about how to improve as a doctor and man, he is excited that could help him be a better parent and support system for Anna and Robin.

Chicago Med season 11 premieres Wednesday, October 1 at 8/7c on NBC.
