Heading into the winter premiere of FBI: International, all eyes were on Vinessa Vidotto’s FBI SA Cameron Vo, and understandably so. In the fall finale, Vo was in critical condition after being shot in the field and it wasn’t looking good for the longtime member of the Fly Team.
Fortunately, Vo pulled through surgery and won’t be going anywhere. The same apparently cannot be said for another member of the FBI: International team as the show’s tenth episode brought about an unexpected departure that no one saw coming.
Warning the following post contains spoilers from FBI: International season 4, episode 10, “Keep Calm and Deliver the Biotoxin.”
Is Jay Hayden leaving FBI: International?
Sadly, it seems Jay Hayden’s time on FBI: International has come to an end after a far too brief stint as Officer Tyler Booth with “Keep Calm and Deliver the Biotoxin” serving as Hayden’s final episode on the show.
Early in the episode, we learn that Booth was up for the GS-14 promotion, which would allow him to return to the States and be close to his daughter once again. When the bureau informed him they’d be reaching out to speak with his supervisor, he assumed this would be FBI SSA Wes Mitchell and thus the job was a lock. What he didn’t expect was that it would actually be Europol Agent Megan 'Smitty' Garret, which threw a major wrench in the plan as he worried about whether Smitty would reveal how he and Wes colored outside the lines when working to bring down Greg Csonka.
When Booth asked Smitty about her plans, she informed him that while she would not volunteer the information openly, she also wouldn’t withhold information as doing so could put her own career at risk.
Booth tried to convince Smitty that all he wanted was to be close to his daughter, but she made it clear she couldn’t lie for him. What she could do was leave the Fly Team as doing so would take her out of the equation entirely, and she submitted a formal resignation letter to Wes.
It seemed as though we were about to lose two members of the team as Smitty, but much to her surprise, Wes made it clear that he was not going to accept her resignation because he never received it. He proceeded to tell her that he had no intention of allowing her to walk away from the team now that everything was finally working and that he needs her around to help keep him in check. He then informed Smitty that Booth had withdrawn himself from consideration for the GS-14 position and was heading back stateside.
The Fly Team saw Booth off with a toast as he offered some parting words to Smitty telling her that “friends are harder to come by than jobs.” Booth then made his way back home, where he was surprised with a visit from his daughter, who had flown in to help welcome him home with some help from Smitty.
And with that, it seems we’ve seen the last of Hayden’s character on FBI: International at least for now. The door seemed to be left open for him to potentially return, but for now, it seems the Fly Team will be back to a team of five.
