Fans of Kathy Bates’s Matlock series, as well as FBI: Most Wanted, may get to see a familiar face crop up on the series. FBI: Most Wanted recently finished its run on CBS, leaving the actors involved open for other projects.

One of these actors is Edwin Hodge, who played Special Agent Ray Cannon from season 4 until the show’s finale in season 6. Before the series ended, he told a fellow agent, Nina Chase (Shantel VanSanten), that he and his wife were expecting a baby together. This was a nice way to cap off Hodge’s time with the series, and another series is already looking to sweep him up.

In response to a question from TVLine, showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman discussed wanting to cast two guest stars who are familiar to two of the stars of the series, Jason Ritter and Skye P. Marshall.

Hodge is married to Marshall, who stars as Olympia, a lawyer who is also the boss of Bates’s Madeline “Matty” Matlock, aka Madeline Kingston. Matlock rejoined the workforce in an attempt to find evidence that could have saved her daughter from her death due to opioids. The show has been a hit in CBS and will be returning for season 2. It was such a success that CBS renewed the show after just a couple of episodes began airing.

Tricks of the Trade – Part One
“Tricks of the Trade – Part One” and “Tricks of the Trade – Part Two” – When Sarah’s client is arrested after his business partner is found murdered, Billy attempts to help her handle the case while Matty and Olympia contend with a pressing confidential matter, on a special two-hour first season finale of the CBS Original Series MATLOCK, Thursday, April 17 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME

The season 1 finale found Ritter’s character, Julian, to be responsible for hiding critical documents that Matty was searching for in her own investigation. He had done it at the behest of his father, Julian Sr. (Beau Bridges), which is sure to see plenty of drama for the former couple as Olympia prepares for a big battle.

So with the show set to return following this cliffhanger, Urman is already looking to bring not only Hodges onboard, but also Melanie Lynskey, who is married to Ritter. Without giving too much away, Urman said she wanted both of them to come on the show to play “a fun character[s].”

How exactly will this look for the show? Only time will tell, but given both Hodges and Lynskey are very talented, we’re sure fans will love to see what can happen if they are able to make appearances alongside their off-screen loves.

While you’re on break for the summer hiatus, feel free to catch up on the entire Matlock series, which can be found on Paramount+. Make sure to keep an eye out for One Chicago Center for more updates.
