Former Chicago PD stars reunite for a milestone date in Upstead history
Chicago PD is in a new era. The show is still going strong, but it has, admittedly, been a bumpy few years. Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) were the "it" couple on the show, and the officers closest to IU boss Hank Voight (Jason Beghe). Then, everything fell apart.
Halstead quit the IU, then left, then divorced Upton. A dejected Upton left the IU and moved out of Chicago a season later. Other officers have since arrived to fill their spots, but there's a group of PD fans who will always hold a special place in their heart for the Upstead era.
Tracy Spiridakos celebrated Upstead's anniversary
Well, those people got an unexpected treat on December 8. Tracy Spiridakos posted a photo with Jesse Lee Soffer, in which the two seemed to be having a date. "Wine and cigar night," the actress wrote in the Instagram caption. Spiridakos and Soffer are dating in real life, so them spending time together should come as no surprise. It was the timing of the post, however, that turned heads.
December 8 is an important date in Upstead history. It marks the day, within the show, that Upton and Halstead got married. The two decided to tie the knot in a private ceremony in the season 9 finale. It was an episode that aired in May, but the canonical timeline of the show has them getting married on, you guessed it: December 8.
Fans quickly flocked to the comment section of Spiridakos' post to comment on the perfect timing. Many believed the couple knew what they were doing, and purposely tipping their cap to fans, since we don't get a chance to see Upstead together on Chicago PD anymore.
Fans were delighted by the actors' timing
It's sad, of course, that Upstead are no longer together in the world of the show, but there is some solace to be had in the fact that the actors who play them are still together, and very much part of the Chicago PD family. Both actors have stayed in touch with their former castmates, and Soffer has even returned to PD as a director.
Both Soffer and Spiridakos are continuing to solve crimes on the screen elsewhere. The former is currently starring as Wes Mitchell on another Dick Wolf production, FBI: International. Spiridakos, meanwhile, is slated to appear in the thriller film After, which is about a true crime podcaster who's forced to solve his sister's kidnapping.
We're still holding out for a Halstead or Upton cameo on Chicago PD, but as it stands, a heartwarming Instagram post will do the trick.
