Brace yourself, Grey’s Anatomy fans because winter is coming, and with it is coming several months ahead without new episodes of our favorite medical drama.

On Nov. 21, ABC will be airing the Grey’s Anatomy season 21 fall finale and not only will the episode be the last episode of 2024, but it’ll be the last new episode of Grey’s Anatomy until March 2025. That’s right, Grey’s Anatomy is going to be taking an extended break and won’t return with a new episode until March 6, 2025, with ABC once again sending the show on an extended winter break.

There are some benefits to this longer break, though we admit it’s definitely not a decision we’re thrilled about as it’s impossible to think of having to wait over three months for a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy but this has become a regular for longtime fans.

While most shows typically take a few weeks off due to the holiday season and return in January, ABC has adapted a different plan with Grey’s Anatomy and its Thursday night lineup in recent years. Instead of taking a short break, ABC’s Thursday night programs take off a few months following their fall finales and return in early March which helps ABC and, honestly, Grey’s Anatomy fans.

You see, with Grey’s Anatomy taking a longer hiatus, when the show does return in the spring it airs without really any interruptions in the season. This results in fans getting to enjoy episodes with few breaks which is honestly a lot nicer than having an episode one week then the show taking a few weeks off and repeating the pattern.

If history repeats itself, it’s possible we’ll only see one break in the season when Grey’s Anatomy does return in March 2025. This means once we get through the long hiatus, we’ll get to enjoy new episodes without much interruption at all until the season ends in May.

And of course, we can always rewatch our favorite episodes or relive the first eight episodes of season 21 as there are plenty of options to choose from when it comes to streaming Grey’s Anatomy. The hit series is streaming on Netflix, Disney+, and Hulu, making it easy for fans to enjoy episodes during the hiatus as we wait for season 21 to resume on March 6, 2025!

And if you are looking for something new to watch on ABC during Thursdays, you can enjoy new episodes of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and the broadcast debut of Only Murders in the Building season 2 beginning on Jan. 2, 2025!
