They're doing it. One Chicago fans have been waiting for five years to see a legitimate, three part crossover event, and the franchise is going to give it to them. TV Line confirmed that the franchise will be aligning Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD for a sprawling, connected storyline, and even provided some details as to what the story will be about.
According to TV Line, the One Chicago crossover will revolve an explosion that occurs in an office building. The explosion will "upend" the entire city, and require the efforts of the Med, Fire and PD teams. It's a thrilling development, especially given that so many new characters have joined each show in the last few seasons.
One Chicago hasn't had a crossover since 2019
The crossover event was not given a specific release date, but TV Line has been confirmed that it will take place at some point during the current season. Given that the One Chicago shows will go a brief hiatus during the second half of November, and feature a limited slate of new episodes during the holidays, it's safe to assume that the crossover event will take place in 2025.
The last One Chicago crossover took place in 2019. There have been smaller crossovers in the years that have followed, with characters from one show popping up for cameos on another, but the push to have a full scale, three part, three hour event has been pushed back repeatedly since the COVID pandemic.
The crossover will likely take place in 2025
There were rumblings of a One Chicago crossover last season, but once again, the real world got in the way. The writers and actors strike occurred, leading to not only a shortened season and a delayed start date but scrapped plans for a crossover event that franchise creator Dick Wolf reportedly pushed for.
The fact that the franchise is pulling their resources from different shows together is signs that it is thriving overall. We can't wait to learn more about the crossover event as we get closer to its release.
